Here's my 2 cents worth.
I worked as a qualified mechanic for 15 yrs on cars. I worked for about 10 at Ultratune. All they did then was tuning. Every car was dynoed although not under load. The main reason was to make sure there was no breaking down under hard accelleration and to make sure the fuel was leaning off correctly. This was checked with CO Metres on the exhaust. It was handy if you had a carby/fi not leaning off correctly or running too rich causing surging. Maybe for a lead breaking down or similar but this was usually so obvious anyway by just driving the car on the road. I believe more of Rockets theory that if you don't have a problem and the bike is running well why have it dynoed? Maybe if you race or something... I can see the point as you want everything 1000%. Or if you have a major prob eg Gdy's recent breaking down problem that he could not solve...then it's handy and that is when I would have one done. As Rocket says most things electronic do not go out of whack in a hurry...they are fixed and usually stay that way. And as far as Rocket being JUST a lawn mower mechanic...the principles are almost exactly the same and when I speak to Rocket his ideas and theorys make logical sense. One other thing, what's with the Character Assasination around here if you have a different point of view...farout. Cheers, Pete Z Web World Sound ya horn when going past a manned speed camera. totaly agree with the Character Assasination
but I guess I am still wondering if the whole dyno thing is worth it now. I think I am more confused then before "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Raz ........if no problem is evident in the operation of your bike, a once a year check (bikes that are ridden this is) at a cost of around the $80 mark gives you a full fuel read and a Hp and torque check .................if all readings are as they should be then nothing futher (as in Dyno Run) is required. Apart from that, at initial set up as when the bike is new (as they are certianly not set to optimum out of the crate) and also whenever ANY modification is done to inlet or exhaust side of motor is carried out then Dyno run is a must to check and correctly adjust fueling. Now anyone that thinks that this is an excessive amount of to ensure that all is sweet.................certainly should not buy a Busa Thats like about the equivalent to a set of chrome Kanji symbol valve caps
Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it ain't "BLING" Hope this helps you somewhat Raz FF1 Edited by: fasterfaster1 at: 28/7/05 8:04 am

Re: JUST a lawn mower mechanic? Where did I say that DJ???
I remember saying Rocketman is handy with a spanner, cause I know he is... From memory I said there is a big difference between lawnmowers and Busa's. Although sometimes I'm not too sure??? Maybe I just get annoyed with the negativity on this board. If someone wants to dyno their bike good luck to them. If someone does a mod even better luck to them. If I can help with advise I will. I'm one of a select few to have done over 110 000 klms on Busa's. I don't really care what makes them tick. (Or really care) I just wanna ride.......................................... As Faster says all the money we spend on Bling and we won't spend the to get it tuned??? Just doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather have it running sweet than have a nickel plated dip stick! (Plus I hate getting passed. ) ??? Now lets have a kiss Rocketman...

YAY!!!
Thank you faster!! I have my answer, yes dyno, just not as much as I was thinking, once a year sounds good to me ;) so thats about every second service by my records!! !!BLING BLING!! I'd rather have a @#%$ looking bike that will whip just about anything next to it, rather then having a @#%$ hot looking one that will get whipped "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Apologies accepted .
Obviously we all have a difference of opinion here, thats why we have a board,to put our 2c worth in, as long as it doesnt get personal. Now on the dyno thing, pay your $80 for your own piece of mind,no skin of my nose. But from my 28 years of experience of riding bikes and owning quite a few,i have never once had a bike dynoed tuned.I know that with new bikes with all the electronic stuff on them,a dyno can be used to fault find and especailly for checking fuel injection settings, but as i said,to me once you have had it done once to check settings i really dont see the reason for it to be done again unless you are having a problem or you have made some modifications to you system. So that is my thoughts on this whole thing and i have nothing more to add............. Ps Raz,its one thing to have the fastest bike around, but then the rider must also be able to use the capabilities of the bike. Phuck its the phantom!Edited by: Djpete at: 28/7/05 2:01 pm

I'd be happy as a pig in @#%$ to have you blokes believing dyno runs are a waste of time & there'd be no arm twisting from this wood duck. A man's gotta get a break anyway he can
Years ago I used to ride *******'s & I'd get asked "how come your ski is way faster than mine" If I was in a good mood I'd give em a tip. But guess what? They'd start ARGUEING, saying it was no good & wouldn't work. Edited by: rev 01 at: 28/7/05 12:34 pm

Now Ya talkin Rocket ..................there is an old old old old actually very old saying that goes back nearly as far as Revs heyday I'd reckon
Anyone can ride a FAST bike But not everyone can ride a bike FAST FF1

hey rod ;)
Mate, just wondering, but are you trying to say something there? Like I can't ride by bike correctly or something or I have never gotten close to riding that bike to what it can do? I am not saying I have, I am not saying I can ride the tits off it and I am not saying I am a good rider. Hell I know myself ever since lowsiding on my first ever club busa ride that I have had issues with getting high corner speed, and I know that there are a lot better riders that can ride a @#%$ load faster then me. All my questions as such were never ment to even show this. I mean, I do find places where I can wind the thing off its clock, and I do use the power it has so thats mainly why I thought it was good to keep it in good nick, after all I don't want something going wrong @ 200kph plus, but I am still not sure where that comment came from ?? "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Raz ,i am not having a shot at you at all.My point being that i think the busa has more than enough stick in std guise for probably most riders and lets face it,how many times do you get out and do 300+ on the road. .I also understand that you want your bike to be running at its best and a dyno will tell you that for your own piece of mind.Ive also stated why i wouldnt worry about dynoing,as i said maybe once and that would be it unless i had done some sort of mods to the bike.
As for guys that get turbos put on,well unless you were dragging or had @#%$ loads of $$$$$$i just see it as a waist for the road, but then some guys just like the 'look at me value'and there is nothing wrong with that either,im sure we all liked to be noticed on our bikes, except of course by the .Why is that icon of the cop smiling?I bet he has just made a booking! Phuck its the phantom!

hehehe sweeet.
Yeah, lets face it, speed limits are @ 100kph in this state. So really any thing that do over that has too much stick for the road hehehe But yeah totaly agree with ya, I don't go do it all the time but on a good weekend I'll see 24+ a fair bit. Either way I learned heaps thanks to you all for a good convo "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"
