Beware on the South Gippsland Highway near Koo Wee Rup (on the way to Philip Island).
New roadworks and duplication means a few kilometres of these lethal barriers going up between lanes, without a median strip.

With so much reported in the past about the dangers of this type of barrier, and assuming that there is clear evidence that it was a major contributor to the poor guy's death, perhaps some keen lawyer might like to take on this case and go after the state government?

We just had nearly every main road installed with these in my area. I was looking at them on the way home last night thinking of this thread and considering what might have happened. It's just shocking. These barriers can do just as much harm as they can do good.
i think in WA they got them removed or there pushing to have them removed , there a menic . they do no good at all

I can't believe the motorcycle reps for each state arent making a lot more noise about these things.
It has been proven here and overseas that concrete barriers are less than a 10th of the price, require almost zero maintenence, and are safer even for cars and trucks.
I bet someone high in the Liberal or Labor party owns the buisness that supplies them, it is the only reason they would stick to rolling them out across the country.

When the first motorcyclist was killed by these things in NSW the RTA came out and defended its use because it complies with the Aust Standards.
Thats because the Standards are designed to keep vehicle from impacting others or solid objects (and hence apparently save lives)
Here is the scope of the standard
1.1 SCOPE This Standard sets out the requirements for roadside devices that provide some degree of redirection and containment capability when impacted by a vehicle, or
provide controlled absorption of the kinetic energy of a vehicle that is on a collision course with some significant obstacle.
So as long as its keeps the vehicles apart its OK, no talk about minimising injury to everyone - talk about missing the point

Luckily, for Some reason we do not have many cheese slicer barrier's in SA . I couldn't find one here if I Tried .Our state government Hate us Motorcyclist's so I Am a bit surprised it's not every where . Maybe the Kick back's don't reach SA .It should be outlawed Nationally .
