These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - ROD - 18-04-2011 These good safety Wire barriers claimed the life of a young 21 year old motor cycle rider yesterday around the Mt Dandenong erea , They say his head got caught on the Wire barriers so yep that makes them safe ![]() R.I.P fellow Rider RE: These good safety Wire barriers - BEAU - 18-04-2011 Poor barstard. How many more bike riders are we gonna lose before commonsense prevails???? rest in peace, young rider.....hopefully ONE day, the way you died will be just an uncomprehensible horror story told to future generations of bike riders!?! ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: These good safety Wire barriers - bigjay - 18-04-2011 since when do the "powers-that-be" give a f*** about anyone on a motorbike??? We could all die tomorrow and they wouldn't lose a minutes' sleep over it............. RE: These good safety Wire barriers - Back Seater - 18-04-2011 Beware on the South Gippsland Highway near Koo Wee Rup (on the way to Philip Island). New roadworks and duplication means a few kilometres of these lethal barriers going up between lanes, without a median strip. RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - Belzybob - 18-04-2011 With so much reported in the past about the dangers of this type of barrier, and assuming that there is clear evidence that it was a major contributor to the poor guy's death, perhaps some keen lawyer might like to take on this case and go after the state government? RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - BikerBoy - 19-04-2011 We just had nearly every main road installed with these in my area. I was looking at them on the way home last night thinking of this thread and considering what might have happened. It's just shocking. These barriers can do just as much harm as they can do good. RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - big kev - 19-04-2011 i think in WA they got them removed or there pushing to have them removed , there a menic . they do no good at all RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - #CAS# - 19-04-2011 I can't believe the motorcycle reps for each state arent making a lot more noise about these things. It has been proven here and overseas that concrete barriers are less than a 10th of the price, require almost zero maintenence, and are safer even for cars and trucks. I bet someone high in the Liberal or Labor party owns the buisness that supplies them, it is the only reason they would stick to rolling them out across the country. Thats because the Standards are designed to keep vehicle from impacting others or solid objects (and hence apparently save lives) Here is the scope of the standard 1.1 SCOPE This Standard sets out the requirements for roadside devices that provide some degree of redirection and containment capability when impacted by a vehicle, or provide controlled absorption of the kinetic energy of a vehicle that is on a collision course with some significant obstacle. So as long as its keeps the vehicles apart its OK, no talk about minimising injury to everyone - talk about missing the point AS\NZS3845 RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - BEAU - 19-04-2011 (19-04-2011, 02:37pm)steventh Wrote: When the first motorcyclist was killed by these things in NSW the RTA came out and defended its use because it complies with the Aust Standards. Bloody hell! They didn't take one motorcyclist into account when they thought this up did they? So much of thinking about the road users as a whole... RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - bazman - 19-04-2011 Found this website from the UK whilst researching these bastard b/rider killers!! Makes for some very interesting reading....check it out below >>> http://www.network.mag-uk.org/barriers/index.html ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: These good safety Wire barriers take a young life - Greeny_SA - 19-04-2011 Luckily, for Some reason we do not have many cheese slicer barrier's in SA .
