Bill I would say that you are losing power supply to the unit and It is resetting itself.

Hi Pete. Bruce and I installed ours today. Look great but working kinda funny.

We set them as a 4 cylinder, but it only worked when set as an 8 at first.

Finally got it going, but on my ride home it would go on and flash when idling at the lights for a while, or when changing gears at lower revs (set at 9500).

Any others having similar probs? Any ideas?

Here's images of what we (they) did. Does it look right?

Took green wire out of cable from shift light...

Connected it to yellow/blue wire...

...then connected to the loom and earthed on the right side of the bike...

I would say that you have connected wires incorrectly Pan
If you are not sure of wiring then DON'T connect them as it can and will blow the circuit board in the light
Bill has a bad power or earth connection, the light runs a test cycle on power up or when it senses a voltage drop off as when starting due to starter motor load. So it is "doing laps" which is it's test cycle because it is getting a power loss or earth loss which will to the light read as the same thing. It should take 15 minutes to fit and wire, simply CORRECTLY identify ECU to Tach wire (yellow with blue trace) connect shift lght green wire to this and red wire to power and black to earth. Set switches to 4 cylinder and set RPM switches to half of activation RPM required.......thats it ??
Check your wiring Pan (and switch settings) but it looks like you may have connected to Yellow with green trace not blue ? From memory there are a couple of wires that look the same in the loom, but there not. It may be just the pic, but I would say it is certianly wired incorrectly.

Pan,

I can see your prob from here, You set it for 9500rpm when the correct setting is 10800rpm

Hi Pete. It was definitely the yellow with blue. I think it must be the earth.

Hi Leonard. My dyno graph shows peak power is constant between 8800 and 10K, so I figured if the light flashed half way, then my brain processes it and I change at 10K...

Does 9500 sound right?

Thanks FF1. I forgot to put smiley things in. I know Blackat is pulling my leg.

Haven't re-wired it yet, but will probably do it next weekend...
Always leaving home early and getting home late... no dramas though. I like the flashing bits!!!

Mine is still working ok

Initially had trouble finding a suitable earthing point.

The nose cone sub frame is not good enough. Connect it DIRECT to chassis as instructed & voila !!

Got it set @ 10.300

The groupies love the Xmas tree effect at night when you switch on & it runs through the self test mode
