To answer Raz80's question. Which ever forum is decided on.. i will offer some time to help out where possible.

As far as my SQL goes.. Every day i sit in front of a pc with two monitors connected, one side is running Visual Studio for .net development and the other is usualy running query analyser/Sql Enterprise.. so I should be able to get by :-)

Cool Aza,

I had a good look at their site as well - tis not bad but it could be better - however:

The thing about this one that DJ has found is that its like an open source project. Thus its FREE to use & get.

It also has the functional back ground we are after.

SQL back end = easy back up & change
PhP coded - means we can code the pages the way WE want them ;) sure we can use their plug-in's - but PhP is huge www.phpbb.com/ & we can bling it as much as we can bling a busa - only its free to do
While it says PhP is open sourced - I am sure there are fee's for using it - "phpBB is released free of charge. However, you must read and fully understand the license agreement before you download and use the software." so there might be a catch - also getting php direct is more advanced - with this one it gives us a start to then move it forward to what we want ;) (IE: base coding is done & can be changed to what we want)

While I agree that the flashing words & stuff will wear off quick - they are pretty much standard these days in php forums.

Lets develop it a little & see how it can turn out? After all its only what we make of it.

The list of the "pros" over ezboard are pretty big. Not just the back up - but full control over it, faster, better looking, local hosting??, no limit on personal message's, easy to upload pictures as well ;) no third party picture hosting.

Also just got a reply from my mate in the gaming guild - in short - "It's a script you install in phpBB that goes to your ezboard and records posts, one forum at a time." That is what the converter script does ;) dont even need a dump DJ!! "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

I do agree that the open source is good... That is why I wouldn't reject it. I have noticed there have been a few mods kicking around for it.

Try these.
We can also do these...
What I mean is that they come free with the hosting service...(Webcity)
yabbforum.com/
www.phpbb.com/
Im thinking phpbb is a better option, we would just have to add the calendar.
I will upload it tonight again (It as up yesterday for a test) and see how we like that...meanwhile see the deomos at theire website.

It's just that they don't do as much as SMF
btw I have been using SMF with no dramas on severl sites for a few years now.
The layout is changable.
It's the options we should be looking at, and I tend to agree with Raz above in that the benefits are huge compared to Ezboard.
If it's colors etc we can match what we have at the moment.
My opinion is that Ezboard looks dated not SMF but everyone is different.

gtg to work...cyas

Cheers,
Pete

lol.. i think both look dated, but of course with smh, you can change themes, create your own etc.. but yep, the important part is the functionality.

As for Rods problems with being made a guest, I'm sure that wont be a problem with a proper setup. The big benefit that you would appreciate Rod, is that with a sql backend that we have access to.. if your data is there, then we can get it.. if it was there yesterday but not today, then we can get it from a backup... If data integrity and security is what is important then you are miles ahead with having sql that we can access as a data storage solution. If for some reason you lost your account, but knew sort of what your login name was, then if it was there with the new system, we could track it down. Having access to the data should give everyone a little more confidence when it comes to resolution of account issues. Ezboards could do this too but Im sure they wouldnt want to with the millions of requests they would get.

yeh aza i no little things like that can be sorted out i think i am just in the old school not realy keen on changing if this board is doing what we want yes it does have its downsides but every board you find will have its own faults so the question is do we change then 12 months down the road a new bunch find something better then we are back to the start all over again this is not the first time this discusion has came up and want be the last THE WARRIOR

actually I think with the move to php/sql - it would be the last - the software can be updated easy enough & add-in's done as well. There wont be a need to do anything after this apart from on-going upgrades (when & if needed) and more add-in's :-) "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Version 1
(Version we will be testing)

now not used
Version 2

now not used
Version 3

Compare and see if you like any...

The benefits again of changing are:
Full backup and control of our data.
Faster service because you're not one of the millions going through Ezboard servers.
Upload images straight from your desktop. (No more photobucket etc)
A search system that actually works.
Calendar and lots of addons.
Generally more options than we currently have.
Cheers,
Pete

We trust you Pete. You know best about the stability and functionality more than we do in the few minutes that we look at the interface. Make a change over time and we will resume our conversations in the new one. I am happy to provide any graphics that you guys want to tart it up. Good on you for having a progressive outlook. The best club should have the best site.
