azifucan Wrote:a local young guy here in dubbo just got jailed for 8 months for doing 170 kph in a 50 zone( on a r1 ithink). pretty clean driving record and no other criminal record. looks like they are out to set an example of him. he has already appealed it and his appeal was dissmissed. the road he was caught on is straight flat , no houses, is a school zone but it was 6.30 am when he was caught. i still cant get my head round that they would jail him for that, i would expect a monster fine and maybe community service or simmilar but 8 months. just a tad excessive me thinks

so to all be carefull we all know how easy it is
hey this is a no brainer
simple dont run
been there 26 years ago and i ran almost killed myself 10 times in 5min .
and i will NEVER DO IT AGAIN

Costs $175 and you have no traffic coming the other way, no radars and you can speed all day long...

Great advice, PanPi_thumbsup
It's a week by week charade.

its one thing getting pinged at 150 or 170, (in a 100 or 110 zone) but when your doing 260, 280, 300+ watcha gonna say? "sorry officer didnt realise bla bla"

But in a 60 zone let alone a 50 zone, you probably deserve what you get.

If we had access to a unused runaway Id reckon none of us would be doing those speeds on freeways.

just to clear up a few things , he never run , when the plod hit their lights he stopped and wasnt in a built up area it is on the outskirts of town and is about 5 ks of straight road no houses just an abbotoirs that he worked at . running from the cops here is all but impossible, the cop that booked me a few weeks ago still waves to me when he sees the bike , dubbo is just too small of a place not to be noticed and the roads are absoloutly shithouse , if you did run your just a temporary aussie

i'm with you all the way....I was thinking about this today and doing more than three times the speed limit in 50 zone.....cops are really cracking down on "hoons".....just think if WE were caught doing 300 in a 100 zone!!! same thing really??????
I'd rather be riding my Hayabusa thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my Hayabusa

Can we put up an anonymous poll for that? Who would run from the cops and who wouldn't in that situation? Would be interested to see the results......

Sounds good, I'll set up a poll with a scenario and lets see who does what anonomously.

not to long ago i was face down in cuffs NOT my fault dumb mr plod fault,, i had just left the lights in first and got up to the speed limit very quickly did not go above limit 70kph dumb mr plod was facing the other way with the lie detector gun and turned around quickly as he heard the bike,, still had his finger on the trigger .. said he clocked me at 210kph ..he was only about 50-80 meters from the lights.. anyway after about 20mins i finanlly got a motorbike cop there told him what i did he went to the same point and took of at the light and proved i could not have done that speed in such a short distance. so the other pod tried to defect my bike brad new k8 i dont think so...so 40 min later im out of cuffs and on my way to work .without so much as a sorry,, the bike cop said if i ran they can not catch busas,, just my 2 cents ps. have pipes modified louder then standard but look standard...

Given the rules about engaging in pursuit in most states, it's not really a surprise that they'd leave things like 'busas alone. Too much capacity for going pear shaped quickly.

I had an incident recently (no hand cuffs, only a really stern talking to, was quite lucky) where I'd filtered, then launched out of the lights pretty hard. No dangerous speed, no real hooning, just some "liberal" interpretation of the law. A cop on a bike a few cars back still took 2.1 km to catch up to me, and only because I had stopped at a set of lights I'd misjudged (they're normally green when I pass). If those lights were green, he'd never have seen me again.

Makes me wonder how many times I've gone past unmarked cars on the highway and they've just ignored me.

In August 2006 I was pinged in Cairns doing 138 in a 60 zone.
$700 & 8 demerit points with mandatory 6 month loss of licence.
I went to court thinking I was appealing the fine (I had a good reason - everyone does) but I stuffed up and ended up appealling the 6 month loss of licence only.
Because I own 2 businesses and need my licence to earn money, the suspension was overturned and I was able to go on my merry way. I was also able to pay the fine $60 per month which meant that I'd still be paying the fine long after I would have had my licence reinstated (had I not gone to court).
(I believe) the only difference between then and now is the $$$ value has increased dramtically.

The biggest problem I think most people have with this is consistancy. I'm quoting QLD law, but NSW is different and so is VIC and ACT. I thought I was living in one counrty, not 7
