Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!)

As bikes go, the busa is damn comfortable. A cruiser is more uncomfortable than a sports bike. They look comfy, but when all your weight is on the back point of your arse, you soon find that they are crap for riding long distance. The sports bike has your weight distributed on your upper hamstrings, arse, hands and feet. You can shift around on the bike using your legs to take your weight. The cruiser doesn't allow this at all especially as the handle bars are high and your feet displaced way out in front of you. You basically have to do a chin up every time you want to try to move.

If you think the busa is uncomfortable, get a Ducati superbike and take that for a spin for a month or so. The busa will feel like a easy-boy arm chair! Hell, I'm 6'4" and the 998 is fine even on boring 3 hour trips to Sydney on straight untwisty roads. -385-

3 hour trip to Sydney from Victoria.. You must live closer to the border than me.. lol

My mate on his harley found he ended up with a sore back and sore neck.. Not only because of the way you have to hold your body weight but you also wear the full brunt of the wind. With the sports bike you can push your but further back and sit behind the screen to get out of the wind for a while. You essentially have a 45 degree angle you can travel your body along where as on the cruiser you upright and thats it.

I did Melb to Sydney a few years back in 1 hit no overnighters on the busa, strange but couldnt do it on the ST1100 which is more of a tourer.

Get a Ventura luggage rack cheap enough. Also consider cutting down 1" of rubber off the footpegs which stocks are stupidly high. I did.

I suspect Tenacious's footpegs won't be a problem if he is only 60kg.
Mine are perfect height for 173cm.

I also reckon he is talking more of a tourer than a cruiser and if that is the case and he wants to hang around the city and uni, then a Suzuki Burgman 650 scooter may be the way to go with its built in massive storage under the seat and highway touring smoothness.

Don't laugh, these things are great for intercity trips.

(I would stick with the allrounder Hayabusa though)

You wouldn't believe it but I was rummaging through all my old motorcycle stuff this morning and I unearthed a rack that actually came with the bike (I thought I had gotten rid of it since I never considered putting it on when I first got the bike). Anyway, I fitted it this morning and slapped my gearsack on, so I've got half my luggage needs sorted for no added cost so far. I actually think I'm going to renege on my vow and actually keep the busa and take it with me to QLD instead. As long as I can get the following touring items that is:

1.) A set of decent size panniers to fit the Hayabusa.

2.) One of the Hayabusa touring windscreens.

As such, if anyone has either of these items that they are willing to sell to me at a reasonable price, I would be very interested in talking to you.

I think you guys have all coerced me into keeping the bike with the strong claims you've put forward as well. Good work!!!

Paul.

I did a trip from Brisbane to Townsville, only stopping for fuel, on a CBR 600. By Rocky (half way) I was rat-shit, bu plugged on and was damn glad to get off the bike. Two weeks later I returned to Brisbane and had half the pain problems. It really is all about time in the saddle. You gotta get on long trips and punch that pain barrier. After a few biggies, the sports bikes get more comfortable as your body adapts to the ride position.

When I bought the 998, after about 200km of riding I honestly thought "what the hell did I blow all this dosh on?" The bike was absolutely nothing like the busa. It was a complete mongrel pig of a shit! Now, it's the sexiest thing I've ever ridden, and I've dated 5'10" blonde Swedes! Getting on a busa, and even full Jap race bikes, are like getting on a tourer for me. I find the 998 sitting position fine, now that I'm used to it.

ouch. Swedes. Where do they hide around here? Where big dukes are obviously. I went from tsv to brissy on an RGV. Sold it on arrival and bought my first gixxer. best thing I ever did. I think Barney Rubble was the salesguy. Seems like yesterday but I have hit my head a lot.

just to add as well.....

I have done Sydney to Melbourne on the busa about 4 times - took the longest way last time - have also done Sydney up to the oxley as well for a few days.

Each of those trips had 2 x backpacks on the back seat of the busa & a tank bag ;) was fine & was not sore at all on all trips. Did a sydney to melbourne on my older FZ750 & was cained!!

Plus there is also rear seat bags & racks - probly like what you found lol.

I am getting a new screen as well - I just can't make up my bloody mind for the colour hahaha but I hear they help heaps - as for legs getting sore - I found thats a riding thing - on the busa when I have done the long trips & I am not moving around my legs get tired as well - I put my feet up on the pillion pegs & lay on the tank

At the moment I use the busa to get to work & back (all of 10mins each way ) & anywhere else I gotta go. I have found if I dont do a big ride I get sore - need to puch through that pain & ride more ;) I used to do 500km rides all the time in sydney. On short trips I normally have a backpack & thats about it as I am used to having to carry everything & dont like leaving the helmet on the bike. but the busa does have 2 x helmet locks under the hump/rear seat section.

plus the guys are right - you will lose too much doing this - you got a 99 bus! they are getting harder to find coz they are either crashed or people are keeping them ;) just go look at it for a bit - touch it & sit on it & move around different positions to find ya comfort - love your busa

seriously tho - ya gotta do what ya gotta do & I hope what ever you do your happy mate ;) personally - I'd be getting a tank bag & a decent back pack & a locker at uni ;) your a biker - it comes with riding a good bike "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

I'll be riding up Friday arvo Paul. You are welcome to ride along. Ressac will be riding far too slow - he's on a Duck, great through corners, slow everywhere else, Busdriver has chickened out - he wants to go flying - up in the air, I think he should fly more - on the ground

Heidi will probably come, if we can keep up with her, she's demon for speed.

Cheers

Yeah thanks Max I will definitely come with to Jindabyne with you if that's alright - I think Azavic was referring to someone joining me on my trip to Brisbane though.

P.S. What time shall we meet today. If its only the two of us shall I just come to your place, or would you still like to meet at Zeferellis. I'm interested in meeting a little earlier if that's O.K. with you, say 5p.m. ?
