Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!) - tenacious - 26-12-2006

O.K. Guys, I was talking to my sister the other day and, she's decided to get married almost "shotgun" wedding style, This means she's only given me one months notice, despite the fact that the wedding's on the Gold Coast. Anyway, I'll be heading up there beginning of February and would really like to ride up there. Unfortunately, the Busa is really not the bike for the job and I would like to invest in a cruiser / sports tourer to take with me. To cut a long story short, I have decided to sell the Bus and use the proceeds to fund this other bike. This really is a snap decision butgiven my circumstances it has to be lol.

Can I just start off by saying that this is only a temporary thing, and I hope to hop back on a Hayabusa at some stage in the near future.

I hope my decision to stop riding a Busa does not affect my standing in the club at all. I would still really like to come to Jindy, and I hope that not owning another bike other than the Busa does not preclude me from doing this. I hope I don't get shunned by anyone regarding my decision either lol.

Thanks guys,
Paul.

P.S. Whoever the kind hearted individual who sent me the tank bra is please note that I will try and send it back to you if you like. Otherwise I would more than likely sell the bike with it on, and I wouldn't like anyone to think that I'm profiteering from the members' generosity or anything.

Re: Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!) - Max - 26-12-2006

Hey Paul,
you make the decisions you have too little mate, you are always welcome at Jindy, if you don't have a ride to get you there you can feel welcome to climb on the back of Mutha (my black and grey) for the trip. Shunning!! we don't even do that to some of the newby arrogant idiots that raise their ugly heads, open their very large gobs and are rude to us , why would we shun a nice little bloke like you? You will still be welcome to Thursday night Social sips too bloke.

Cheers mate.

Thanks Max mate - actually I might take you up on that offer of the lift to Jindabyne if that's alright - it's the most sensible option for me to tell you the truth.

And I'll still be at the social sips when they're on, no worries about that.

Paul.

Re: Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!) - Volvi - 26-12-2006

do what you wish but strange decision. You have a trip to make and decide the bike isnt ideal for the 1 trip not that it wont do it well just that "cruiser best suited to trip". So a change is in order.....just coz of trip. Now if you always wanted a cruiser or rather one and use this occasion to make change fair enough, but to sell buy for one trip doesnt compute by me. But good luck in whatever you choose your always welcome in the club no matter which bike you ride.

Re: Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!) - tenacious - 26-12-2006

Hey Volvi don't get me wrong - I'm not buying the cruiser / tourer just for the one trip. The fact is I've started to realise that as much as I love the Busa, it just doesn't suit my purpose at this point in time. With commuting to uni all the time, I have lots of books, plus my helmet and jacket, and I end up having to carry all the stuff around with me while at uni, which does get tiring. I need a tourer with panniers and a topbox where I can just throw all the stuff in there during the day and come back and get it as I need it. When I start full-time work I think I might go back to the Busa.

Paul.

ventura rack and a decent bag ''rjays make a beauty'' work just fine. have rode my bus all over this way including a 3 week trip from Brisvegas down to Adelaide and return via the coast two up. n just ask cowboy bout distance stuff. who says the bus dont tour. magnificent mile eater.

Re: Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!) - Volvi - 26-12-2006

tenacious fair enough you know best your needs. the only bike that comes to mind is the FJR yammi but they aint cheap @20k. members in the other club I frequent bought 6 of them in a month, almost an fjr club now. theyre a nice bike not the all light green but blue/silver one. trade ins tho make pretty large changeover prices. cud always go for ST1100 I had 3 of them.

Re: Stepping Off (only for the moment though!!!) - BUSGO - 26-12-2006

A really good second hand BMW K75, K100 OR K1100 RT or LT would do the job and the prices are great for a bike that will go forever.
You can pick them up for around 5 - 10 thousand these days.

In my opinion the busa would do the job with a good rack setup. You can lock a Ventura bag onto the rack and the zips as well.

Re: cruiser / sports tourer - GDYUP - 26-12-2006

I thought that was what the Busa was???

Spose there are more comfy bikes out there. But they lack power. THE END

You can always make the Busa more comfy with higher handle bars, lower pegs, heated grips and a taller screen.

If then it's still not your cup of tea. Time to off load it. Good luck with the sale. (At this time of the years. )

A "Big Bag" helps on the days when a lot of gear has to be carried. (Plus a tank bag)

Cheers, Phil.

Re: cruiser / sports tourer - Max - 26-12-2006

Hey Paul,
the guys have made some excellent points. next time you have the same time off as we do, come on over and I'll show you how easily storage gear gets on and off the Busa with little effort on a lot less cost than the changeove you are considering. If you're coming to the Social Sip this Thursday, leave yourself a little time and I'll show you how to pack a whole lot of kit onto your busa.

Cheers bloke.

Ever heard of Virgin Blue ? - AstroBusa - 26-12-2006

I'd tour anywhere on the busa (ok... except dirt), but considering its a one-off situation (unless your sister gets married a lot), why not compromise.

Keep the busa and fly there.

You won't get a reasonable trade-in so you'll have to shop for a cheaper / older bike. Then there all the heartache of selling / buying and all that goes with it. Then you've got to do a major tour on a bike you know nothing about. Was it serviced regularly ? Is there damage that isn't immediately evident ? When was the last oil change and service ? Does it have touring bags and other stuff you need for the trip ? Will it make it ?

Then after a couple of rides, while you're searching for a torque curve on your new ride - which is fully loaded and feels like its chugging up every hill - you'll lament having sold the bus.

So... save yourself all that heartache, spend $100 and let JetStar or Virgin Blue do the work. Then when the wedding is over, fly home and hug your busa.

Then again, its your decision. Do whats right for you.

Why is it called Virgin Blue ? Is she holding her breath until the right guy comes along ? Or is she 40 and just plain embarrassed ? The older I get, the better I was. Regards.... Rob

Re: Ever heard of Virgin Blue ? - tenacious - 27-12-2006

Thanks for youe words of advice guys.

The thing abiut the Busa (for me anyway) is it really is a mongrel to ride long distances. I wenr down the coast - an hour trip - and my legs fully seized up - I had trouble walking it was that bad. Then I though "bugger this, I'm not taking the bike anywhere other than to uni and back ever again".

My question to everyone in the know is this then:

"How do I make the Busa a more comfortable, and more practical (in terms of load space) bike for me at the lowest possible cost, and I mean very low cost. I can't realy afford anymore than a couple of hundred, and I will need somewhere to store my helmet on the bike.

That reminds me - Suzuki should have put a helmet latc / holder on the bike - can you get one of these for the bike cheap, does anyone know?

Thanks guys,
Paul.

Re: Ever heard of Virgin Blue ? - Max - 27-12-2006

The bus has a helmet latch underneath the rear seat/hump mate.. I'll show you when you get over. I've exceeded my 5 blasted 5 pms for 24 hours as I've been gasbagging with Glen about a shirt he's putting together for me.

Cheers
