I remember when.........
Soft drinks came in glass bottles. Plastic bottles had the big black plastic base cup on the bottom and afer they were consumed they ended up on lawns filled with water. Petrol was leaded. Cars had contact breaker ignition and a carburettor. A hotted up car had two carburettors! Cars were made of steel. Accidents were minor and easily repairable. You could fix the car yourself with a few mates, a few beers, and some tools. All L and P platers had cars that were just in their budget, and they spent the weekends fixing them so that they could get to work on Monday. Radio came in AM only! People cared about other people - that has changed. Everybody is in it for themselves now. You could put an indicator on and a gap appeared. If you had a baby you didnt get $7K If you knocked over a 7/11 then you got 5/10yrs. If you argued the point you got 12yrs. Mommy and Daddy could smack your arse and if you sooked to the police they would smack your arse then take you home to Dad to reinforce the mesage.

I remember buying a $1 bag of mixed lollies, getting on the bus to the movies (about 1/2 hour ride) and still having enough lollies left to throw at the screen at the movies.
I also remember that things were built to last...not like the disposable society we live in now (where most things are only designed to last 3 years if you're lucky).

I remember when... oh no... I forget.
No, no... now I remember. I remember when being on welfare was a humiliating, desperate, last resort so you could feed your family until you found a new job. Now it's a career vocation. I remember when your mistakes and your bad decisions were your fault, not mine. ("Your" is not intended to imply "the reader", its just an expression.) I remember when common sense meant more than common law. Something I do clearly remember is that my father felt honoured to be here (originally from Italy). He freely and enthusiastically adopted the laws, customs and ethics of his adopted home. He truly did appreciate this country and went to his grave a very proud and patriotic Australian. He never asked anyone for one single cent. He worked his ass off and prospered. He never encountered prejudice or discrimination because he earned respect by giving everyone a fair go, not being a complainer or a winger, bettering himself, being proud to be an Aussie and doing things for his family and his community. (Miss you Dad... R.I.P) I remember when I could remember important stuff without having to write it down. I remember when I used to think people my age should have died years ago. BUT..... I also remember when child molesters went unpunished. So, not all progress is bad.

I remember fishing off a wharf at 4 years of age with no adults in sight and mum not worrying about where I was.
I also remember walking the 2 miles to school in bare feet after being shown the way for a week or two.

I remember when I used to smoke in the office at work...without issue.
I remember all the things I did when I was a kid. Walking through the sewer pipes underground all the way to the river near Dights Falls hoping it wouldn't rain! Breaking in to a place called the wool factory, we would jump into 30 feet deep wool from the roof to get in and then swim through the stuff to get out to the floor, then we would start up the forklifts and drive them around for fun...my kids love hearing the stories. Now with all the brainwashing of the media we scare our kids into doing nothing...no adventures for them, they might get hurt. We only use the wool now to wrap them up in...lol

lol busgo was that in the snow you walked???
i remeber having to 'kickstart' my motorbikes over and over.then getting cranky cause they flooded then haveing too do the old 'push start" i remeber being the only kids for 20 miles only ones that had to wear a helmet. baby busa just brought back the memory of roller skates...i wanted badly a white pair with the red stripes and red wheels.(i found some in a antique shop:S) i remeber wham was hot and you wore wham tshirt.and george micheal was thought of as straight. legwarmers looked damned sexy with your leotards and high sided one piece.----jamie lee curtis guyssss ya cant forget that body. remebr mum cooking a roast lamb and the late arvo sun streaming in the kitchen windows. i remeber when dieslil was cheap as chips and as farmer we could get a rebate. remeber hubs then bf took me too the drive in in his 65 fairlane. having a beer with duncan was top of pops. the purple shaggin wagon was what the cool guys drove and fluffy dice with shag dash mats. u used to have grocerie boys used to pack ur goodies in brown paper bags. friday night was the 'special get fish and chips take away" that thongs the ones on your feet cost only $2 bucks not $35 and double pluggers wear dress thongs to wear to pubs chicken was a yearly treat like turkey bread was one large loaf delivered to your post box

Cheeky, you remember too much!!!
Too young for this group I reckon. DJ, you remind me of the drain pipe escapades too. We used to get in and go underground for a mile or two. Rain never occurred to us. Sunday lunch was always a big roast followed by a bowl of "Mr Whippy" icecream from the "GREENSLEAVES" music truck. A whole mixing bowl full cost 20c.

Bloody hell this is getting sad....who's going to cry first (either about how old we are, or about things that we should remember but can't).
Do you remember those poxy blue and pink elephants across your full canopy pram and that smell of plastic on a warm day? I do.
Do you remember when - a Beano was 2d? a Dandy was 2d and Commando 6d, I do. Do you remember when - filling up your Holden HQ Monaro LS Coupe V8 308 cost less then $5 for a full tank? Super @5.9c a litre, I do. Do you remember when - money looked like money, felt like money, smelt (humm) like money, Brown $1 note, Green $2 etc. I miss all those notes, even the Grey $100 but especially the yellow $50 and when they came to you all fresh new notes in your pay-packet. Not the monopoly funny money we have today. Ya dont realise things were good till theyre no longer around. Guess every generation says that. oh, smoking at the cinema to one side of the 'auditorium', ash trays on rear of seat in front of you.
Copper/Silver - The original, the rest are just copies.
