When the forum first started, there was talk about
it takes about 15 minutes of running to re-charge the battery voltage used from a start. so a series of short runs over a period of weeks would slowly drain the batt. 
I got 9 years out of my first battery, ran it as a commuter 3hrs nearly every weekday.
2nd battery is 5 years old and getting very sluggish, the bike sits in the shed on an itelliget trickle charger most of the time!
Got 3 different "intelligent" chargers on 3 different bikes - all different brand chargers.
IMHO - the Ctek's are the best.
