S-DMS help

Okay, I was just wondering if there were any 'time and place' situations I should be aware of for using this part of the bike. I have been searching for around an hour and the only information I can find which goes further than saying "You now have three power options" only says that C=100kw B=130kw A=146kw.

So far I have only dropped it into C-mode when it is raining/wet or cars are covered in ice from a heavy frost. Otherwise I tend to just leave the thing in A-mode. But what about the middle B-mode option??? Should I be using this to put less strain on the engine on longer trips of say 50km+, or is it just for cooler roads where you don't want to be ripping things up?

Also is there any fuel economy advantages to switching between the various modes? And should I be dropping down through them when taking on steep descents?
