I just have a flying lead under the pillion seat for the trickle charger- fully insulated/covered plug that came with the $50 charger. In the shed the bike lives with the charger connected.
Sad to say
, but the bike will often sit in shed for up to 3 months under a cover without being ridden. With the "smart" charger, I've never had a problem, just give it start and idle for a couple of minutes every other week to move the oil around(or when I remember- has been left over 2 months on occasions
).
