Trickle Charge o nthe cheap - Pommie - 12-12-2009

Just seen this on another site, not recommending it but no reason why it wont work and not cause problems. Good idea I'm thinkin. Might try it on something other than my bike first just to be sure.

Good idea if your not gonna be using your bike for a while, whileaway on hols or similar

BTW its the second article on the page.

I tried that once out of desperation. It works!

I bought a 3 phase trickle (smart) charger from fleabay for $50, you must have "some" charge in the battery for it to operate properly.... Phase 1, the charger determines how low the battery is and how much to begin charging.... Phase 2, charging begins and continues until the battery is full.... Phase 3, the charger swithches to stand-by mode and will mind the battery so if the charge drops, it tops up the battery to keep it full... I have left the charger connected for over a week at times and there are no adverse effects.

I just have a flying lead under the pillion seat for the trickle charger- fully insulated/covered plug that came with the $50 charger. In the shed the bike lives with the charger connected.

Sad to sayFrown, but the bike will often sit in shed for up to 3 months under a cover without being ridden. With the "smart" charger, I've never had a problem, just give it start and idle for a couple of minutes every other week to move the oil around(or when I remember- has been left over 2 months on occasionsPi_freak).

Always starts instantly first time everytime. Pi_thumbsup
