Why are tyres in oz so expensive

I contacted motomummy in the US and there story for not selling to me was that the tyres would get damaged in transit and it would cost way to much to freight them I think its just a case of Bridgestone finding out that there undercutting Oz retail stores. And there probably under cutting the Oz wholesaler. So who is ripping off who the wholesaler or the retailer.
