Why are tyres in oz so expensive - DAD - 02-10-2008 Why the hell are tyres in Australia so dam expensive. If you look on the net in the U.S of A Bridgestone BT016 tyres are anywhere between $205US to $250US thats a pair and they wont ship them to Australia. Same tyres in oz $600 fitted what gives? RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Dan85 - 02-10-2008 same reason you can get an new busa in the states for $11000 and we are paying upto $20000 RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Louwai - 02-10-2008 DAD Wrote:Why the hell are tyres in Australia so dam expensive. If you really want them, I can put you onto a mate who lives in Tuscon. He will buy them with his US credit card & get them sent to his US address. (as per retailer requirements) then he'll on-forward them to you. All costs paid up front. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Missy_Moo - 02-10-2008 I know its so handy having family in the states. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - DAD - 02-10-2008 I contacted motomummy in the US and there story for not selling to me was that the tyres would get damaged in transit and it would cost way to much to freight them I think its just a case of Bridgestone finding out that there undercutting Oz retail stores. And there probably under cutting the Oz wholesaler. So who is ripping off who the wholesaler or the retailer. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Missy_Moo - 02-10-2008 believe me the postage/freight is nothing... RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Louwai - 02-10-2008 Almost everything is cheaper in the US. There's a particular telescope I'd like. I can buy it Retail from the US + ship it to melbourne + pay correct duties & taxes & it would cost me AU$9500 To buy the EXACT same unit here retail is AU$14000 Go figure. I can get it even cheaper. I'll buy it retail, I'll pay for a plane ticket for my mate in Tuscon to visit me & he'll bring it as personal luggage. & then when he goes, just leave it here. No duties & no taxes. With plane ticket would cost me about AU$8k all up. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Madmax - 02-10-2008 Louwai Wrote:Almost everything is cheaper in the US. There are 300 million consumers in the USA mate. Supply and demand. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - busacrankin - 02-10-2008 Bullshit to 300 million people! That line gets trotted out all the time in defence of greedy people charging 300% profit on anything they sell.Let alone the the government charging extortionate taxes on everything. Long Live the Colonial System. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Madmax - 02-10-2008 busacrankin Wrote:Bullshit to 300 million people! Max RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - busacrankin - 03-10-2008 Sorry Max, it`s one of my pet hates. That`s all. Cranky RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Louwai - 03-10-2008 Madmax Wrote:There are 300 million consumers in the USA mate. Supply and demand. I'm afraid I agree with Crankin on this one Max. In my particular case (telescope) the manufacturer specifically forbids any US retailers to sell to Australia. If a US retailer does, their trading rights for that brand are removed. In Australia there are several retailers for this brand BUT they are all supplied by ONE wholesaler / importer which has the exclusive rights to Australia for this brand, & as such they can charge what they like. The manufacturer / brand owner is totally protecting the single wholesaler's market here in AU by not allowing any other retalers to sell to the AU public. This AU supplier's wholesale prices are well above the RETAIL prices of the US. The AU retailers are making a profit but not massive. RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Madmax - 03-10-2008 Louwai Wrote:I put up with the same garbage guys, I'm hearing you. A Sako brand bipod for my sniper rifle will cost me $800 via the only importer in Aussie - Beretta. They sell for around US$500 in the USA - from the only importer in the USA - Beratta! They also are forbidden from selling to Australian customers. It's not particularly difficult to beat - as long as you have someone in the USA to purchase then send to us here.Madmax Wrote:There are 300 million consumers in the USA mate. Supply and demand. I still say they can sell for less because they have a larger market. They protect retailers in Ozzy by refusing to sell at their lower USA price. I suppose one answer would be to move to the USA and become one of them, but who the hell would want to leave this golden land of opportunity to move to that hell-hole? Max RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - busacrankin - 03-10-2008 :aussie With you all the way on our country MAX, but just can`t stand the way no one protects our citizens in any way shape or form. Why do we elect people that do us no good. Corporations shouldn`t be able to dictate to the population.Just look at the recent Subprime fiasco & the ridiculous remuneration packages executives are paying themselves. With ever increasing profits comes far more expense for consumers. : icon_box_: RE: Why are tyres in oz so expensive - Gnarbunkle99 - 03-10-2008 Similar discussions have take place regarding the cheap ass shinko 003 tyres for drag racing. Not cheap ass over here unfortunately. |
