I agree with mechanx, Kero = good for chains!
Some of you guys really punish your chains.
A GEN 1 chain should be good for at least 40k* and a GEN II should see out 60k* easy.
*(General purpose road use, not track or drags. Carrying a pillion will cut into your life in a number of ways. lol)

Kero on a rag to clean my chain.....can't see it harming the orings, kero is a petroleum distillate so it has a lubing effect as well as cleaning.

Who told you that Ruben, Cause it's Bullshit, I Reckon . I've never seen Kero attack an O ring, but if the O rings were rooted & the kero Got past them it would ruin the internal lubrication. Same thing applys to chain lube . How can it lubricate the chain internals unless the O rings are Stuffed ,Meaning you need a new chain anyway .

Ever try looking in the factory manual / hand book ? its been stated in there for as long as i can remember.
Ive been using it for yrs then run an oil rag over it.
do a google search on kero on bike chain shit loads of info about using it

Than others & some at around 65 kg wet-

But they ride hard n thrash it- who's chain

Of bike where it live's & environment play a part in long chain life..

As to very dusty environment ?

I know poor & bad missaligned & adjusted chains wear out quicker

Corbin, I don't live on a beach mate. lol. About 20 ks away by road and I don't think there is much salt in the air here.
Even if I did live at the beach, a well lubed chain would be protected.
As far as taking a pillion along on your bike is concerned with chain wear, and tyre wear, I reckon you can expect about 30% less life in both cases.

If your mate had a rooted chain in 3,500 ks. He did something drastically wrong in his riding style or maybe he exceeded the 195kg load limit every day! hahaha.

Sittin up on the mt drom or mumbulla mountain I could see the ocean
Sea spray headin inland, it does travel,but I hope your safe up there.

I just got my D.I.D chain looka like rivet breaker / installer $99.oo from cykel

Yeh I know there's one on ebay maybe cheaper,
Local yamaha shop had one for me ;)

Now I can perform the correct mushroom on the rivets...

Just hit hard with a hammer two bike workshops said

after reading this thread the other day, I figured I'd better go and clean my chain yesterday (2nd time in 14,000k's of rain, hail and shine daily riding).
Rear sprocket is showing obvious signs of wear, but the chain is still like new - RK530 xw ring. I'm not exactly nice to it either. Good quality chain!

as for chain life, I've got a new chain and I don't remember how long the last one has been stuffed. But I've been at Tallangatta for for ova 8 years and it was stuffed for most of that, just kept adjusting and heaping lube onto it to keep it quiet.

I'm intending to look after this new one. - maybe time to clean it?

For my bikes its Dupont motorcycle degreaser and Dupont teflon chain saver.
