2nd gear Oops

I had her wide open the other day, in 2nd when she lurched as if falling out of gear and immediately back into gear, got the rear end out of shape as the power came back on immediately. It's only happening in 2nd when I open her up. Any ideas?

Worn dogs Max .................... nothing a nice undercut on a few gears won't fix. Have another members bike here with the exact same ailment at the moment.

roughly whats the damage $ wise to get something like whats happen to max's bike fixed pete ??

Depends a lot Kev on what you find inside, but usually if caught early the gears can be recut and box is in effect better than new, if worn to far then replacement is required and the dollars jump ............. dramatically. So end cost is basically totally dependent on amount of new parts required ................ bent clutch forks ? Gears worn beyond repair ? Shift shafts bent ?
The longer it's left the worse it gets ................ both the problem and the cost

Had a sim issue on my '06
Except was in 1,2,3.....

Got the gears undercut and all is sweet.
oh and the turbo too... I figured what the engine outs.... why not!

Has anyone seen this problem on Gen 2's yet?

I know it was a problem on gen 1's and the Gixxer 1100's, but I thought I read somewhere that on Gen 2's the gears were cut with more rake on the dogs. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?

Good luck with the repair Max. It's a pretty weird feeling when it does it. My 1100 had the problem (too much time on the back wheel), and when it first slipped I thought I had run over something slippery and broke traction. I didn't have the cash to fix it, so I just kept riding it. The slipping became more frequent, and I eventually stopped riding it when it nearly threw me off whilst powering out of a corner. Sold the bike cheap and made it someone elses problem (told them about it).

Can I spilt the cases and not dissassemble the top end? I'l like to get the motor out, get the gear box out make repairs and replace them without disturbing the top end?

What do you think?

my (dearly departed) best mate had this same prob with 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears on his 750 (pop-up h/light) Katana. He really used to flog the absolute crap outta it, especially when stone-cold (not in any way suggesting that your prob has been caused the same way - I know your bike is your princessCoolsmiley) and he left it a long time before he got round to assessing.....and by that time, like Pete says, the damage bill was Scary !
A year or so later, the dealer that my mate originally bought it off that ALSO did ALL the repair work, wouldn't even take the bike as a trade-in, knowing all the punishment that my mate regularly gave it!

IMHO, try to get it checked out ASAP, to save yourself an even BIGGER repair bill later!

That's the process Max. It's my bike that pete has ATM.
He only received it last night, so he hasn't checked it out yet.

So, assuming it's caught early, how much does it cost to have the gears re-cut?

Cost to undercut depends on how much machining required, how many gears and also who you get to do it ?
