Macquarie pass is a regular truck route especially since the surface upgrade, diesel on the road is a big problem there plus when you get to the top and head towards Kangaroo valley there is also a fair bit of green moss around during winter which is as slippery as black ice
Glad your ok steve it just goes to show wearing full gear does pay off good on ya, Ive had moto riders laugh at me because I wear full gear in summer.
As for hittng the brakes coming up on the rear of that car I had a near rear ender about 2 months ago I was going quick when I had to pull in all of a sudden behind a car and as I was hard on the brakes I hit a bump in the road and my left hand came off the handle bar scared the crap out of me.
Never had that happen before so its another lesson for me LOL!!

i saw a guy a kogarah today while i was there on a gpx 250 he was in full leathers which was good to see and his mate on a hysung was wearing slip on shoes an t shirt n shorts NOT a smart move
Fark bad luck mate, good to see your ok. Could of been a lot worse by the sounds.
The gear you had on saved you and though the bike might not look pretty , it can be fixed.

Rory from Insure My Ride rang me last night and I submitted a claim over the phone, he didnâ€t even ask for a police report, I had told him earlier that I didnâ€t call them. I just have to pay the $400 excess and the bike will be fixed. If I had to have an accident at 80 kph you couldnâ€t have asked for a better outcome. I donâ€t know if you call that good luck or bad, itâ€s one of those glass half full quandaries. It hasnâ€t shaken my confidence, although it does cause me to pause a little longer and consider the consequences but once underway that is largely forgotten as soon as the thrill of riding sets in.
I think if I was riding any other bike I might have considered that Iâ€ve pushed my luck too far and stopped riding but the Hayabusa is such a special machine, about as close to a living thing as a machine can be, the idea of giving it up is as traumatic as ending any good relationship. It has that magical quality of beauty and power, it feels like a precision instrument when you on itâ€s back and I canâ€t think of a better place to use it than on the roads over the Great Dividing Range, a marriage made in heaven, with a direct route to hell.
Iâ€m sitting on the veranda of a house out in the bush surrounded by gum trees watching kangaroos graze on the lawn studying a map searching for the way home. I think Iâ€ll take the Clide Mountain to Braidwood, Lake Bathurst to Goulburn, Wombean caves to Katoomba, the Putty road to Maitland, Thunderbolts way to Inverell, the Bruxner Highway to Lismore and then passed the Somerset dam to Brisbane. Else I could turn left instead of right at any junction and go another way, what ever, I canâ€t wait.
Thx to everyone for your concern and advice, see ya on the road ;-)
Shit mate, your not having much luck. Glad your ok tho!
If police had of come you would have got a ticket. The policy is someone HAS to get a ticket, unless you get a good copper having a good day. But because it was a P5 (I assume you rode away, didn't need a tow) & it was a single veh incident with no damage to any property or other vehicles you don't need to report it. Insurance company's now handle it all in those circumstances.

Glad you're okay.
Yeah I thought I saw 2 busas coming down the pass as I was heading up.
Finally made it home Friday after a week and a half riding, covered about 2.5K kms all up and apart from a small off it was a great ride, it has taken me two days for the old bones to recover. I didnâ€t make it up Thunderboltâ€s way because I had a coolant leak all the way home so I just stuck to the Pacific Highway until I got to Ballina. From there I headed inland and took the road thru Kyogle, Rathdowney and Boonah. Thatâ€s gotta be the start of one of the best sections of road in Oz. If you add Mt Glorious, Somerset dam, Mt Stanley / Maleny, Kenilworth and Gympie youâ€ve got at least half a dozen 10+ km stretches of twisties connected by long sweeping corners in about 300kms. Some of you southerners ought to schedule a club ride up here one day, you wont regret it.
