Lane Splitting - what's the go?

Violinone to watch out for over here in SA is the insurance company will claim you were in the wrong because you created your own lane even though you were inside the white lines overtaking parked traffic when a dickhead decided to get out of his ute( totally illegal according to the LAW) at a set of lights and ended up smashing into his door , so they use that excuse to not have to pay out so much - one illegal act verses another not quite set in cement act - go figure

Thanks Brian. I think that answers it once and for all for me. It is the same as one other time a cop pulled me over for something. He was wrong, I politely told him so, so he booked me for some other totally unrelated ridiculous reason. In other words, if Mr Policeman wants to give you a ticket, he will. A copper mate once told me, even if you can prove you were in the right and take it to court, the copper will lie just to save face - your word against theirs. Plus I am sure he will be keeping a very close eye on you in future.

Thanks again.

My understanding in SA is that you can pass stationary vehicles on the left and you can cross the white lines when going from one prescribed roadway to another, including cycle lanes only if it is not for a distance of more than 50 metres. This would make moving to the front at traffic lights legal and passing traffic jams going from one lane to another legal.
I followed a motorcycle cop through a traffic jam once and he just nodded as I went past later. Was I lucky??
