If it is a GEN 1 99 - 07 it could be a loose screen. - common problem.
If it is a GEN II 08 onwards and sounds a little like a slight clicking noise, it could be the front calipers and disk pads bedding in on a new bike.
Other possibles are a loose fairing screw or clip.

Hey Shawn,
I had a rattle in my K5 and found that the fuel tank was just touching on the frame.Just your lift your tank and check for wear marks on the frame

here you go . this fixes all annoying rattles ( not including the one in your head )

try looking at the mirror pivot points as well my 99 model drove me nuts I went over the bike for ages till I found the rubber between the riveted joint was worn I took the mirror off and squeezed the rivet gently in a vice with jaw guards till the wobble and looseness went out BINGO no rattle !!!

check the steering damper pivot ,i had that one then get a couple of small o rings and install them on it.
