well some have used the 14 battery which is higher and didnt complain about the height so Id guess one cud get away with the extra 25mm.

Personally Ive read alot of negative reports on the gel battery like with the 14's, and having had an OEM acid for 9 yrs, Id probably be recommending the Gen 1 batteries.

Thanks for the comparison Volvi.
Looks like the official service manuals have not been updated in full.
Maybe the specs that they provide are a minimum standard that is required for a busa.
I knew that there was a size difference.
I would be going with the extra cranking power of a Gel battery if one fits in the older model.

I just bought a YT12A-BSY for my K3 from Battery World here in Brissy for $139. Shop around, $169 seems a tad expensive.

Could have sworn I posted earlier but anyway.
I ended up with a Gen2 Yuasa battery for $149 from Niddrie Suzuki - fitted it into my Gen 1 with no issues. The seat presses down firmly (removed sponge block that pressed against original battery.

The bike turns over like mad, I don't ever remember it being like that! (it's been a while).

Ended up getting a new battery charger with a mode for low (<14AH) batteries that does all the fancy trickle + shutoff safety stuff. It came with a set of leads that you can leave (bolted) on the battery so that charging can be done by opening the hump and connecting to the other end of the cord. Bonus!
Got it from Jaycar for $79 if anyone is interested.

I used the rear master cylinder peep hole for battery charging terminal, so no need to keep removing hump.

Will the old busa charge a gell battery correctly?

With the forklift batterys we use at work gell batterys use a charger with a differant wave form and are not compatable with wet acid types.

Yep, they are still a lead/acid battery, just not as 'liquid' as they were before.
