Wallowing?, is there a better word to use?
Had a great days ride today, Lancefield then onto Bendigo and back. 300 odd k's.
I noticed however when on lean under power the bike was wallowing. Not stable almost like a boat on waves. Now I know having had the bike quite some years its either simply the tyers not up to scratch or the suspension needs adjustment.
My suspension was completely overhauled a few yrs back, perhaps it needs adjustment.
Tyres are both Pilot Power 2CT, front fairly new due to recall. Rear wearing in the centre but still some left, sides pretty sticky with plenty meat. However bike doesnt follow good line on linear uneven surface, usually indicating tyre wear.
So what do you reckon guys, why the "wallowing"?

Hi Volvi,
Was the "wallowing" happening in the rear as you were exiting the corner. Two things to check out would be 1) the tyre, if it has squared off a bit and you are riding the ridge of it, or 2) the rear shock.
You mention the suspension was rebuilt a few years ago. Did the rebuild include overhauling the rear shock absorber?
Or it just might be the power buddy!

Also,
Recheck the suspension, sounds too soft.
Could also need to refill the steering damper.

Rear tyre has squared off a bit.
Rear shock was never touched, at front rebuild time was told didnt need to do anything to it. ie didnt need new spring whereas front shock springs were changed to 95kg.
Gdy, with 43 rear teeth chain is short as is, ie barely gets rear wheel back on.
Diablo Corsa? I know is good but I doubt has the touring miles.
Busgo, have never touched steering damper ever, maybe time to service it. agree perhaps needs to harden up suspension all round.

I changed my steering damper oil tried 10 grade fork oil (dont) my busa started to feel strange in the steering sort of wallowing at slow speed changed oil to 5 grade fork oil was like a new bike to ride even took out a knock in the front end best thing I ever done & shit easy to do takes about 20 mins.
Ive heard that duel compound tyres can feel strange as you roll from one compound to the other & feels worse if they have a few k on them. This advice is what steered me away from them. Maybe this is what your feeling ??

Hi Volvi,
Maybe just get a re gas and oil on the back shock to start off with. I see you are in the 70K club, so the shock has seen a bit of work. And it's a fairly inexpensive way of finding out if there is an issue, cheaper than Pirellis or a new shock.
Steering Damper - just remove the plug, and change it to a less viscous grade of oil. Also easily and cheaply done, and gets answers to your questions fairly quickly.
I took the link out of mine, and the back wheel just goes on. I did not notice a great improvement when I shortened the wheelbase, but I did other things beforehand which made a greater improvement.

So 5 grade fork oil is the one when replacing fluid on steering damper?
may have to wait trying corsa 3 as front still has another rear before changing set and I dont like to mix match, but to date I havent been convinced by the dual compound on the Mich. so may just replace rear with standard eventually.
and yea, reckon time the rear shock had a look into.
anyone with a Do It Yourself instructions for steering damper fluid change? might be ezy but aint done it before.
my wheelbase has to be about an inch shorter with the extra 3 teeth on the sprocket. plan for future is to return to stock config when time to replace chain and sprock, not much need for 43 tooth, better having some economy, musta spent yesterday about $35 just on frikkin fuel with about 360 k's done........$1.58 Ultimate outside the metro it was. frakk me dead.
PS. the FRAKK is only coz Battlestar Galactica has finally started last Friday its last season in the states after a years wait, so wont be waiting on Oz to pull theyre finger out, I'll frakkin download them. Highly recommend the show, only start from the beginning if you havent seen any.........oh and frakk is from the show. kinda neat replacement. many have since started to use it.

Believe me - a choice of tyres does not cause a bike to wallow....
Nor does wheelbase length.
It is suspension sloppiness or steering damper.
Volvi, you will find instruction on refilling your damper in the new "How to do it" pages.

ARh Volvi turn your bike into as new machine and get a new rear shock and the front forks done the right way. All can be done in Vic
I have connections.
