I have a rough patch at ~2800RPM, it's been so long I can't even remember if this is one of the traits of the Gen1's.
I was told that an attempt had been made to tune it into smoothness but apparently it can't be done.
It's not so much rough but rather is not a smooth area of acceleration/deceleration and I always find my self in that range when riding around start stop traffic.
I find it hard to believe that it can't be smoothed out.
Ideas?
I think I removed the 6.8k resistor mod last year.

sounds like you need a reliable TRE, I recommend the GI Pro w/ATRE by speedohealer, also a gear indicator.

The original, the rest are just copies.

If it can't be done its the 4k rpm inline 4 primary imbalance.

Checked and I've still got the 6.8k resistor doing it's thing.
I've had an intelligent TRE years ago, from the US, IC(chip) based ATRE that did everything I wanted - had gear indicator, 4 different 'map' settings ie 333456, 444456 etc and did neutral properly hence as an ATRE should. It gave up the ghost at 5/6 and I had a replacement one that was wired differently so that didn't work.
I've read of the GiPro and would consider getting it but read of similar results after a while regarding 5/6 gear detection.
My real point is, apart from having neutral run properly and no GI, an ATRE won't do anything else that the 6.8k resistor does.
Gnarbunkle - what is this cheesecake imbalance you refer to? Too much topping? But seriously, is it some natural harmonic voodoo other than that 4k(4.8k?) vibe that all Busas have? Something all 4 cylinder engs have?
balance the throttle bodies, clean the injectors and make sure its a little richer in that area.Mine shudders through 2500 as well.Perhaps try 98 octane to eliminate detonation as the possible cause.Or definately try without the tre for less timing.

Rough patch at 2,800rpm is not due to the primary imbalance to which I refer. I guess that you probably also have airbox mods and pipe, if so its more likely that the fuelling/ignition is a little off in the rpm range where the airbox flapper used to do its thing.
