I went to start my bike the yesterday - no go!

Was able to jump start it no problems, but it still didn't have quite enough charge when I got to work (about 6klms).

So I bought a 12v 2.5 amp battery charger. It's been charging for about 8hrs and the green "Charged" light still isn't on.

Reckon my battery is a piece of sh!t?

I wonder if it's covered by warranty?

I wonder how many hoops I'd have to jump through to get them to believe the battery is a piece of crap?

Sorry to say Tim that if the battery wasn't cooked before, you might have cooked it yourself.
I hope not.
Should only charge bike batteries for about 3 or 4 hours at about 1.5 amps or below or have them on a trickle charge that automatically turns on and off as required.
(according to the Owner's handbook page 6-7, it says 5 - 10 hrs at 1.2amps)

batteries aren't covered under warranty they are considered disposable items according to a mate with a from new gixer 750 k1 witch has done a battery a year since he got it suzi wont help they tell you to take it to your dealer who will put in a new battery (at your expense)test it and tell you all is ok.the only info i could come up with came from this site it was check for paint between the rec/reg and the frame a bad earth there will kill batteries hope this helps

I'm pretty sure aBUSa had a battery on his 04 replaced under warranty i'll check with him.

There are a lot of sophisticated battery chargers available on the market today for a reasonable price. Set and forget technology, no more cooked batteries.

The green charged light didn't ever come on after about 10hrs charging.

So I put the battery back in the bike and so far no problems. I'm yet to put my multimeter on it to see if it's maintaining charge.

Fun times.

i also have that cheapy Repco charger when green light comes on, in no way shud these chargers be used as Busgo above said re cooking your battery.

I use a trickle charger forgot what its called $99 from Mick Hones for a few years now and my OEM battery is still alive @ 9yo. I highly recommend these chargers for maintaining long life in your battery.

Is the K8 still using the same model batteries?

Hey mate, this is what I'm hoping happened. Otherwise I potentially have a problem with my battery or charging system. (park lights are more likely haha.) but all of that aside, it's possible i've overcharged/cooked it haha!

as soon as i find that pesky multi-meter i'll post some results about how well it's holding charge.

Yuasa, thats japanese and best brand tho now I hear they are manufactured in Taiwan.

My 99 OEM battery is also going strong. Over engineered, they may have fixed that "problem" with the later batteries.
