Front Axle on a 99 Busa
#1
I took off the front wheel myself for the first time since I got my Busa (3.5 years!!) and was wondering whether the bit in the picture is meant to be smooth or if it's okay to have a slightly rough edge on it.

Forgive the lack of my technical wording here:

It's the right end (as shown) of the short bit of the axle that winds on to the long part of the axle. In this picture it looks like a thread, but I think it is meant to be smooth.

I replaced wheel bearings and seals and I would have thought the bit of the axle that makes contact with the seal should be smooth to keep water and junk out, but mine seemed to be worn.

What do people think? Is it okay to leave as it is or should I replace it soon?

PS: BIG Thanks to Legend for the phone consultation/counselling today! Got the bearings in and new rotors on, and EVEN made it home! Pi_thumbsup

Once was smooth, thats where the seal runs, if its a firm fit in the new seal give it a bit of a polish and your good to go, if its loose and won't keep water out replace it.

Still seems a tight fit. It's on now. Might take it off and smooth out the edges with a quick polish next week...

Thanks Maj

Looks like the bearing seals need replacing. Maybe new bearings also .

just polish them smooth without taking of to much alloy. you can also sleeve them, but you dont need to do that as the seal is quite tight on the front.

I'd re-use it. The grease won't come out. Maybe a bit of wet and dry to remove any really sharp bits.
