Has anyone welded the clutch BTL themselves instead of buying on of the many mods available on the market?
Are there any cons to locking up the BTL myself with the welder?

If you can jig it accurately , and weld well (most are tigged) there is no prob.
But if you go turbo later you will need the btl working (unless you go with a lockup clutch for drags but thats a whole new ballgame)

I ran my Turbo with a welded BTL, low 6lb boost, never slipped. Higher boost levels as Maj has said stock is best or Lockup.
If your not confident in dong the job contact gazza414, he does a nice job all set up in a jig for a moderate fee.
Otherwise I can sell you the Brocks or Schnitz BTL, but the welded does the same for a lot less

There's a guy in Mandurah that has done some. He runs the rotary drag bike so might be there tomorrow.

Can some one point out the advantages and dis-advantages of doing this mod.
Cheers,
Bill
Im with bgaheer, BTL - back torque limiting. Isnt that what we call a slipper clutch now? Whats the advantage in welding it up ??

Good for the drags , but not much joy on the road as it has the tendency to lock up the rear end into corners.
Can a std clutch slip under accel as well as decel ??

No it isnt, but have put spacers behind the springs that gives a heavyer clutch which is fine so far at the drags( Been kinda slack in that department lately ) .
My bike is a 05 , but i believe the earlyer models have small diferences

cheers loafie, reason i asked is cause if you had that mod done there is no way you wouldve stayed with the front runners on the jindy loop in december, with the wet roads it wouldve played kaos for you, i struggled to keep up with you ratbags
cheers
generally only becomes a problem downshifting to second gear.my bikes got the scars to prove it.
