oil changes

g'day
I'm doing a oil & filter change ,I like to change every 3000km.yesterday when I got filter & oil the guy asked me if I wanted a crush washer for the sump plug. I've never seen one on the sump plug, should it have one? which way does it go onto the plug as it has a rounded edge & a sharp edge .
I'm confused

The flat edge goes up against the sump.

Every sump plug should have one. If that is your sump plug in the photo, I think that you'll find your washer squashed up around the plug head. Maybe has been put on upside down in the past.

thanks for that busgo, must of been put on wrong way round at 1st service, managed to get old washer off.

Sort of thing that you should change everytime you pull the plug, I keep a spare at home but must admit I never change it because it doesn't leak. Watch that sump plug torque- 23nm not a tad more or you risk stripping out the threads.
