Hey guys I was talking to some random the other day who reckoned he knew about bikes and he was trying to tell me a busa motor is only good for 100,000kms. Now I know this is not the case as there's a few guys herewho have done over this amount and are still going strong. But it did get me thinking - how long does a well treated motor last for (and an abused one for that matter)?
Any ideas? Or is there someone out there who has racked up a massive amount of kms and wants to share their opinion?
Thanks,
Tenacious.

There are some with longer lasting engines than mine Paul. 104,000 and still untouched.
It has lost only 2 hp from the original claimed output and runs as smooth as silk.
Tell him "He's Dreaming" mate.
He knows shit!
I've thought about giving the engine an overhaul, but why waste time and money on something that obviously doesn't need it?

he may know about bikes but he obviously knows f*** all about busa engines. good mechanics say that engine is pretty much bullet proof. i think a few in states can testify with over 200.000 miles on their engine, now convert that to k's. why else is the busa engine so well sought after even for other projects. mine is 67k if theyd open it up I reckon theyd say its almost new.

The original, the rest are just copies.
ya dude - I am at 53,000 on the clock & shes fine - never had a problem & my only problem atm is a fueling issue.
But then again - I change oil every 10,000km (Actually a little more like 5 ~ 8,000km) but service every 10,000km & normally dyno run to make sure she's keepin the power there ;)

Regular air/oil filter changes and quality oil will help maximise engine life. I have also heard that most wear occurs during cold startup so no revving when cold should help. Type of use counts also eg one long interstate trip piles on lots of kms but will cause far less wear than several months of short commuting trips of an equivalent distance. Similarly taxis and busses can seem to go almost forever but their engines seldom get a chance to cool down.

A friend in Sydney has a stock Busa with more than 120,000km, drag raced it heaps, and it's still faultless! Runs 9.7's on it too!

I've got just over 53k on my 04. I do the short daily commute, but I also rode it from Brisbane to Melbourne with well over 100kg of luggage + me (about 100kg).  Hasn't missed a beat to date.
I'm also one for the book. Service every 6k.
