I always like to remember the people who have given their lives to help make the world a better place.
I don't condone war in any way and even though I did over 20 years in the RAAF I still believe most modern wars could have been avoided if it hadn't been for the greed of those in power at the time.
Too many gave up their young lives in the hope of a better life and many others had no choice, like lambs to the slaughter under misguided leaders.
Here is a tribute to the flyboys of WWII.

Yup the whole family got up to go to dawn service. I always get teary at dawn service. Coming from a small NZ town you notice every year the numbers of returned servicemen and women getting smaller and smaller Last Anzac day we spent in NZ in the rain and the cold then drove through flood waters to get to Auckland Airport to come home. This year was spent on this side of the Ditch in the warm :)
Thank you to those who made the ultimate sacrifice so I can enjoy my freedom of speech, my freedom to travel, my freedom to work and get paid what I am worth, and my freedom to enjoy this county.

Always try to go to pay respects.
Good turn-out here in Melb.
As was the turn out for the Long Tan commemorations.

ANZAC DAY is 25th April - God bless our Servicemen and woman
The Final Inspection
THE FINAL INSPECTIONÂ Â Â Â
The Soldier stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.   Â
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"Â Â Â Â
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, my Lord, I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.   Â
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.   Â
But, I never took a dollar,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.   Â
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.   Â
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.   Â
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.   Â
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

It's the Soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.
It's the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the Soldier, not the politicians, that ensures our right to Life, Freedom and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.
If you care to offer the smallest token of recognition and appreciation for our Armed Services Men & Women, please pass this on and pray for our men and women who have served and are currently serving our country and pray for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Â

If you are reading this in English then thank the Australian Defence Forces!!

A tribute to all those soldiers, living and passed away (and their families) that have kept and keep our homes safe!
ANZAC Day is special, though I hope we don't take them for granted every other day!

Just learned last night on doco about the Nurses massacre on the beach of Sumatra I think it was, by the japs. ordering 27 of them (who escaped from Singapore) to walk into the water and when weist high they were mowed down. Nurses with red cross uniforms! One managed to survive her wound and lived to tell the story. Hard to fathom the japs mindset of those times. Today they are much different of course and so horrified by what theyre military did they didnt want any army for a long time.
So yes we remember them all especially all those who suffered so greatly as POW by the japs.
Lest we forget.
