THis request has nothing to do with bikes (as you may have noticed from the thread name).
Most of you appear to be from Melb so I thought I'd ask.... does anyone know of any cheap accomodation near Richmond? I'm in Melb for a conference next week but can't afford the $160 the conference people suggested.
Any suggestions?

Heidi, another apology as I am not familiar with Richmond. Free board at Eltham if you want although it's 35 minutes by car to Richmond on a good day and although never having used it, I am told the public transport can be a bitch. If your still looking and no-one else posts a solution for ya, I'll make some calls to suss out some accomodation options. What dates are we talking about? - regards Jim

There doesn't appear to be much in the way of low-cost reasonable accomodation in the Richmond area, so if you don't have a vehicle at your disposal it may be a bit of a problem.
On the other hand if you are moblie, there are more affordable Motels in and around the nearby suburbs. If you are interested I too would be happy to chase around for you, so let me know.

Thanks everyone for the help and thanks specially to those who rang and emailed and offered me somewhere to crash! Much apreciated (gets me all warm and fuzzy to know we have such a top group).
On Richard's advice I rang the Nunnery in Fitzroy (seems they will let me in after all). Sounds very cheap and FUN! Apparently it is where all the artists, musicians and general bums stay. I should fit right in!
Thanks heaps! now all I have to do is write my presentation for the damn conference. WHO thought this was a good idea!
