It's an old book that someone lent to me when they heard I loved riding.

It's called Zen & the art of motorcycle maintenance by Robert M Pirsig. I'd imagine a lot of you 'oldies' [I'm 22, hey] might have heard of it [it was released in 1974.

It's one of the funniest reads I've had in years. It's supposed to be philosophical or something, I just find it an entertaining read. It makes me remember how enjoyable a ride is, it makes me want to ride slower [imagine that] and enjoy the scenery. Too fast too often is how a lot of us ride nowadays I reckon.

I've already ordered myself a copy, for $30 delivered. It's better than any movie I've seen in ages. So much stuff about riding in general. hmm

Who's read it, what are your comments.

Anyone who hasn't read a book in a long time [like me] should pick this up. It'd be something good on a rainy day. Makes me smile and laugh a lot, and thats worth the $$ itself.

Well Jon, I do have a copy of the book and did start reading it some years ago, but I have to admit about a third of the way through I found it boring and it didnt motivate me to finish it. Perhaps I did not do it any justice and should finish it before commenting, but there ya go as they say my 2c worth. Oh and actually am a very sort of spiritual person, so its not the Zen bit. But am glad you loved it.

On the subject of books. I am trying to source an out of print book called The Masada Plan by Leonard Harris (1976). Read it in late 70's, but want a copy. Its a remarkable work of fiction yet very plausible.

This is an absolute classic that all riders should read. It gets pretty heavy towards the end when Pirsig starts getting very dark. Is the sort of book you need to read twice but is well worth it!!
