Surprisingly the Munch has been around for probably close on 20 odd years. I saw it in a different guise in 1981 both in a German museum and up at the National Museum in Brummy land UK.
In its day it was a heavy chunk of metal not all that dissimilar to the Kawasaki Z1300 -6 cylinder of the day, for those that may remember.

Yes I can remember that one Gazz, bet I can find an old mag with a road test if I looked around the shed. I think the first one was a 1300 ? with a basic NSU car engine ??
I rode with a mate to Bathurst who was on a Z1300 6 & me on the CBX 1000 6, the noise was incredible

Me too, I'll check out the achives---trouble is that the missers will then ask me to throw out all that shit
Cant win em all hey. The Z1300 was one hell of a bike and for long distance touring not bad at all in its day. The CBX is collectable too. I remember a certain 500GP WIZ from the 'gong doing a very long power wheelie on one not long after we all left school in the "70's. ( In those days you never got booked by the cops for being out of control ) what a sight 6cyls and they were very wide. Still see a few for sale

I've got a book somewhere, with all bikes(well most anyway) manufactured in (about) 1980. The munch mammoth was in there, but was a cruiser-harley style. It came in 2 sizes, 1300 and 1600 (VW power plant) It stuck in memory as it was one one of only 3 bikes heavier than mine at the time.
I had a CBX1000 and loved it.(would love another as a 2nd) The only things bigger/heavier were the full dress harley, Z1300 and the Munch. . . but E$86,000??? I'll put it at the top of my list once I win lotto. |
