Triumph the first true 200mph production bike?.

What do you think of this, pulled of MCN's web site

This week’s MCN, out Wednesday September 3, has the long-awaited world exclusive first pictures of Triumph’s new 1300cc Hypersport machine.

Triumph has continuously denied the existence of the Daytona 1300 – a potential rival to the Kawasaki ZX-12R and Suzuki Hayabusa – but our pictures, taken in the UK this week, show that it is up and running.

The bike is expected to be called either the Daytona 1300 or Hurricane 1300 when it is launched and is likely to be the first true 200mph production bike.
Triumph has shown its high-speed intentions with the 1300. Obvious attention has been given to the aerodynamics of the bike, the nose of which droops down almost to the front mudguard, which covers nearly half the wheel, while at the rear the four-can exhaust has been tucked away under the seat.

At £8,500 ($22,000) why not get a busa and mod her up? What would 4 grand of performance mods do to your bike?

How do you stay loyal to the 'busa when what probably drove you to buy one was that it was the fastest bastard on the planet?

How do you convince your better half that you need this new bike, a year after you just bought you current bike?

Dilemmas, dilemmas!

Bye bye busa? Blah blah blah more like it. The UK press tend to be just a little bit, well, let's just say 'enthusiastic' where Triumph is concerned. For instance, running a 'big bore sports bike' comparison article featuring the R1, GSXR1000, 999, whatever Aprilia are pushing this month, and a Triumph that was outdated even before it was released - then expecting us to take it seriously...

I'll wait until I see *actual* ride reports by people *outside* Britain.

Didn't they say the same thing about the Zx12 before it came out?

Hey, What's the difference between a Triumph and a bucket?
. . . a bucket holds oil!

I've got a lot of time for Triumph. They have a benefactor who is prepared to lose money for a long time in the pursuit of getting Triumph amongst the respectable brands.

Like Aprillia, I think they have already done that in a short space of time. The last bit, of standing toe to toe with the Jap bikes, will take longer, but they copy what's good and add some pretty good innovations along the way. The TT 600 was a dog compared to a Jap bike, but apparently it could out handle most things and had better brakes than most. The Daytona 600 is much better from the lessons learned, so Triumph inches forward a bit at time.

I think this bike is for real. Triumph got rid of the previous 'gentleman's aggreement' speed limit that sparked the Big boys to produce faster bikes resulting in the Hayabusa. Likelihood it's a pig will be high, but it won't be that bad. Still, I'd wait a year at least before buying one, just to see what's wrong with it.

Not as good looking as the 'busa anyway.

I'm sure Triumph has a whole batch of Jap bikes that they nick ideas from. If you look at all their bikes, you'll see what I mean. The old Daytona was a Ducati 916, Honda VFR inspired rip off, and this one has a Kawasaki nose and Honda SP2 radiators.

They'll get there. Give 'em 8 to 10 years.

Ah yes the old Triumph anecdotes !! Like the time I rode from the Ballarat Kangaroo Rally in 69 & the generator on my "speed" twin fell off followed closely by the right exhaust header. My Levi's were soaked in oil by Ballan
Some clown on a Harley WLA 750 side whacker blew me away too so I wasn't real happy

I have ridden a modern Triumph but I reckon they still need a bit of work so I await with interest the new challenger

Once upon a time, many yrs ago,I would lob over to the mates`garage,on a Fri night,to commence our weekly ritual .....which went something like this :-

I would tippy-toe around the 2 doz or so oil puddles to where he was,up to his armpits in oil and gunk, yet again, performing major surgery to his `Triton`.
"Ride Sunday?" I would ask.
"Yeah" he would reply "just gotta get the ol`girl flashed up."
That said,he would `THEN`immediately commence his ,much practiced start-up procedure `FOR` the Sunday ride.
(By Sunday, sometimes he had succeeded, most times not!)
High on anticipation,I would then leave, also covered in oil....even though,at no time had I ever got closer than 10ft to the contraption (strange that)

Ahh Trumpies!....ya gotta luv `em....they always made `every other bike on the planet` look Shit-Hot !!

PS: And now, they wanna go 200mph,eh?
*$#@ me !! They can barely get the crappy things started!!

Franko, riding and looking in vain,in my mirrors, for 200mph Triumphs to pass me!!

Surprise - NOT!

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/detai...nID=212131&documentID=182712

"MCN has learnt that Triumph has scrapped its project to build the first genuine 200mph production motorcycle.

For last three years the British factory has been developing a 1300cc hypersport bike to rival the Suzuki Hayabusa blah blah blah..."
