Further to my exciting spark plug replacement weekend - my first -, I had a look down the throttle bodies with the butterflies (?) open, and saw LOADS of YUCK on the thingies (are they pistons or valves)?

Anyway, how can something so mucky run so well? How do I get rid of the black stuff from those thingies?
