I know this isn't the insurance forum, but I thought I'd put in my two bobs worth. I'm trying desperately to insure the bus and am having great problems because I am under FORTY!

QBE has quoted me $200 more than last year, New England now refuses to insure Hayabusas and the guy laughed when I said it was a sports tourer not the 'all out sports bike' he suggested. Even after using my 'but I have a clean riding record and I'm a GIRL' trump card, they were still laughing!

Heidi,
Transfer your rego over to your mum's name and get her to insure it, with you as the nominated rider !
(I hope your mum is over 40 )

I'm actually seriously considering that. I wonder if they would still pay out.

How much did QBE quote you as I insured with them for $750.00 for the year and I am under forty.

They did the same to me, hiking it up over $1000 at time of renewal. Where you live has a lot to do with it, though. Probably cheaper down Tassie way, as nobody steals anything (all being related... )

QBE has quoted me $1 350. That's with being over 25, clean(ish) riding record and a 50% no claim bonus. I think they're dreaming.

I went through the insurance thread on the topic board and rang everything there, but does anyone else have any suggestions? i am loath to go with QBE as I feel they bullied me last year.

Heidi,

A guy I know told me recently of his 'strategy' in keeping the insurance companies "honest" (used in the loosest sense of the word!)

Rather than paying the amount invoiced on the annual renewals, he goes out and gets a brand new policy, direct from a local bike dealer. I've not yet tried / confirmed this for myself, but he swears by it.

Have any other members tried this?

Hey Cruza

I did that once on renewal and it was around $60 cheaper when I did it at the bike shop - and to think that they still get a kickback on top, makes you question things even more.

Cheers

Sounds like not a bad idea. On cars, once you hit rating one, they give you incentives to stay on with one insurer/one policy (like rating one for life), but no bike insurer has any such incentives that I know of. In fact, they give you incentive every year to shop around for the best price.

I like that suggestion.

I emailed Frith last night asking for a quote. They replied with a request that I call them on their 1800 'phone number before they could quote me. In the end they declined my business as I ride the bike daily. I assured them that I had secure parking at my work, to no avail. They will only insure a 'Busa if it is not a commuter. End of story. All I need now are the contact details for New England to see if they will save me from Western QBE and the $1110.00 premium.

Hi guys, I'm probably the newest member of the ASHC and very much prode of it. I bought a second hand, 492k, 2001 Busa a couple of weeks ago so am all to familiar with the insurance saga. Swann quoted $1574, NRMA $1476 and Western QBE $947. I am 35, 1 offence in 5/18 years, 60% NCB, member of the Honda Riders Club (better change that I spose), declared I will travel under 8,000k per year (I've already done 2,500k in 4 weeks, oops, better change that) and quoted a North Coast address (Forster) that also helped. Cheaper, but at what cost. A bike shop told me the other day that the insist on second hand parts in the event of a repair (heaven forbid) and that they are relucant to payout anyway. I think I will contact Friths and Shannons before going any further.

You guys are doing a great job, well done all.

Cheers, Dave.
