Not sure if it could be considered a mod, as it's not actually connected to the bike, just the battery terminals.
Was originally going to connect it to a power relay I have installed under the left hand fairing and mount the plug in the fairing cover. But had a couple of issues.
1. There would be a wire flapping about when anything was plugged in.
2. I would need to have the item up front/in a tank bag etc.
3. needed to be through the relay as they draw a small current and would drain the battery if left for ages.
4. Never really trust the waterproofness of cheap plugs like these.
5. Don't like drilling holes in my bike, even in cheap plastic panels.
Solution: I wanted a plug with a switch, that was easy to see so couldn't be left on accidentally. I wanted to able to move the plug about on the bike, up front for the GPS in tankbag, under the hump to charge the phone or ipod if flat whilst away from the bike. Even to put it in the gearsak to charge laptop etc. Another advantage is I can remove and fit to any other bike instantly.
Couldn't find the right thing off the shelf so made this.
Fairly basic, but light up switch when on, waterproof, enough length to move where ever on the bike.
Cost: USB plug with voltage regulator and inline fuse $10 -Jaycar.
Switch $4 - Jaycar. Small plastic container - found in the kitchen cupboard. ancillary clips & wire - lying about in the shed.
It'll live connected under the hump, but with enough lead to able to route under panels to other areas when needed.
