Brake Piston Tool
#1
Just wondering what the gurus on here use to push brake pistons back into the calipers to fit new pads????
Any tips or links much appreciated.

After cleaning the pistons I sit the old pads back in place. Then use a short tyre lever inserted between the old pads. Paul.Very Happy

If you're desperate, motor mechanics have the tool to separate them, but I put pads in and do the same with a flat chisel

They don't work so well Pete. You clamp down on one piston and the other comes out. You'd need 6 sets of multigrips for a Gen 1

pan, I haven't had mine apart before, so im assuming they
have more than 1 piston to each calliper?
if the pistons are on the same side of the caliper
it shouldn't be a problem if u put 1 of the old pads in first.

personally I have the tool rod just posted,
its also pretty easy to make if u have some flat steel a bolt
and a tap set.

This one wont work Rod,
need offset piston push back tool.

multi grips are sweet, old pad back in 2 set of grips working both sides (of the one calliper) at once

Make sure the other calliper is still on the bike other wise you may pop those pistons out..

I bought one of these....if it doesn't work, I'll throw it in the bin and try something else (probably vice grips)

Before you do anything, just remove the old pads and give a calipers a thorough wash. Don't use any of these so called "brake cleaners" as they do damage the seals. Just a dishwashing detergent works very well. Only then you can think of pushing them back. I just use the old pads and the big screwdriver as they move relatively easily. If you need a lot of force, something is wrong and you better check it thorougly. Also you can slightly schamfer the bottom edge of the pads to make it easier to locate the calipers on the discs when you install them back. Pi_thumbsup

I meant that tool Rod..
That tool will only work with a sliding calliper. not a calliper with pistons on each side.
using the old pads is perfect. your throwing them away any way so they'er perfect to use so you push all pistons together.

for the busa you need a tool sim to this to push all 6 or 4 pistons bock together (yes still using the old pads)
