cutting down yoshi rs3
#1
Heres what I started with
[Image: IMG_0599.jpg]

Pull them to bits, and bought one RS3 replacement carbon fibre sleeve off FleaBay ($99) and cut it in half. Covered it to stop it getting scratched.

Had to cut both ends of perforated tubes and make them suit. With a bit of beating the end caps pull off. Bit of careful measuring required.

Repack with new steel wire wool and packing material. Put the shorter sleeves on, make sure the seam is at the back.

Just gotta rivet the bands back on, and stick on the badge (dodgy badges from Thailand) - job done!
I'll do the other one tomorrow and slap them on.

Hey, i'm pretty cautious about this because I think there are other members out there who are being polite and know a whole lot of reasons why you shouldn't chop these in half!
I kinda guess that if Mr. hayabusa, Mr.Yoshimura, and Mr.akrapovic make them that way to start because there's probably a good (scientific) reason to do so!
But i enjoy doing these sort of things and it will be interesting to see how they work and what they sound like!
However, I would really recommend this as an easy fix if you have some damaged cans or want to upgrade to carbon fibre look - pretty easy and a bit of fun.

Not sure what the ramifications are . . . but they will look good. Bugger what "those that know" know ! Would be interested in how they sound, go! Do they have the correct "safety" labels in place?

Having played this game before, in the case of slip-ons, they are the size they are to allow them to be put on a std bike & not require re-tuning whilst also meeting decibel requirements to some extent. The power & torque will also move slightly up the rev counter. There may be a slight decrease in peak torque with a corresponding increase in peak HP once re-tuned.

You will almost certainly need to re-tune due to lose of restriction in the exhaust, otherwise you will be running lean.

I don't see any of this as negative, just fact.

People who are adverse to louder exhausts may see the increase in noise as a negative. People chasing an increase in low down grunt would be disapointed. There is a chance if you go too short they may loose some bass & sound a little tinny, I experimented a fair bit with diffrent lengths to get the best balance.

They will be louder, lighter & look better & once tuned have a small inc in HP.

Sounds like win-win to me Pi_thumbsup

Are these the same clowns that designed the godawful cans on the gen2 ?? Idiot2

The only thing I like about my pipes is the fact that they CAN be replaced .. Lol3

Very tidy work CaptainRob.Pi_thumbsup
Perhaps Mr Yoshimura may not like it, but it's not his bike is it. If everyone had the same standard bike it would be a bit boring. I like seeing different mods. Some I may like and others not, but I still appreciate the work that people put into them and respect their decision to make their bike as they like it.
