Misplaced Busa key - need another
#1
Long story short , I seem to have lost the key to my Gen 2.

Searched everywhere and the house got a good clean up as a result ( +1)

I do have a spare key but, I really would like 2 keys as you my might understand .

What would the cost/complexity be involved in getting a replacement ? Well aware of the chip technology within the Gen 2 key.

Best avenues. Suzuki first or , would a quality automotive key company be a better option ?

Cheers

I would say get some prices... either way you have to get the codable key and someone to program it. original doesn;t always mean better

Good question too is how many people actually have 2 keys? I've ever only had one for my bikes and have always been a little worried especially with these late model bikes

try a lock smith first, i had to replace a key
for my ford, ford wanted over $900 for a key and
to program same, keysmith did it for a cpl of hundred,
other than that i think suzuki might be the only other option.

lucky my bike came with 2 keys, theres also a tag that comes
with the key with an id number, if u have this number then it
should be easier to copy, the book says it can have upto 4 keys
programmed into the ecu.

In the Vendors Section - looks like can they do a 'cloned' key for $90 or 2 new keys for $395

I had to get another through Suzuki for my 14 (sorry) but long story short I got the key through them, they got it cut through there 'good' guy, then I had to part with the bike for a day (it's my work transport) cause they had to ride it to Suzuki to get it coded, and I mean Suzuki HQ in Melbourne (Laverton) HQ wont let the dealers do it. $350- without what they charged me for a loan bike. I was amazed...

For the guys in NSW, try Annadale locksmiths, you can buy the key on ebay from China for $1.99 get it cut for $5 and he can chip your key. The bloke there rides bikes himself. Some quotes I have gotten have been ridiculous, $200 plus!!Pi_freak

I've checked the Washing machine, taken all of the squabs off the couches in the living room, pulled all the draws apart in the kitchen, looked under everything ...been through every pocket of clothes, jacket's, jeans , shaken gloves out, searched through the garage and found a lot of things I don't even remember owning. Including a Matchbox car under the workbench, still in it's box.

Been under the bed , shoes I have'nt worn for years, one sock (?) ...a few girly magazines and a lot of dust, searched both cars and been through the rubbish bins.

Can't find it.

News from Suzuki today is I'll have to take the bike in and they'll courier some sort of 'inter-face' device down from Auckland at my cost and go from there.

Think I'll keep looking for a while ....

Don't say hump lock... aarrrggg

First time I started riding my busa in 2011 I used to secure my helmet on hooks under hump..
Rode to city and did my norm getting off and getting ready to walk around town. After an hour or so I head back to bike.. when I get under a block away I start looking for keys, checking pockets once.. twice.. three times
I am thinking "SHYT" I dropped keys in a store somewhere and I gotta start back tracking. Decided to go to bike and start from there. Walked up to bike and there are my keys clearly hanging out of hump lock (helmet was on other side of hump)
I am damn lucky and it makes me check that lock 3-4 times before walking away form bike now... someone could of had a Busa WITH helmet that day

And thats why i keep my key in one certain place in the house, i park my bike lock it and take the key out and put it in this certain place before i do anything else just a habit i have gotten into. Its not under the hump is it, a moment of not thinking take the hump off, take the key out of lock while working on bike and put it down in hump compartment thinking you,ll remember its there. just an idea.
SPEED ISN,T EVERYTHING BUT IT SURE IS FUN.

Have you checked in your car in case you drove somewhere and it fell out of pocket? Friends houses/places you may visited that day and maybe had it in your pocket?
