fuel pump upgrade for 99
#1
hello again peeps.....once again i have another great question..... will an 01-07 fuel pump install into my 99 tank??? to get rid of the bulky 99-2000 pump, if it dose i figured i could just link the old supply and return with a sort hose as the internal fuel pumps dont have a return. anyways any advice would be great.cheers!

Not that I'm any kind of expert, but I have heard that (although technically possible) it's not that simple. For starters, I believe you need to change the tank to accommodate the internal pump. Also, I think there were issues with fuel pressure regulation because of the fuel line distances and tuning etc will be different.
But I'm sure someone else here will be able to verify before too long.

i kinda figured the tanks wern't changed through out the gen 1, i was thinking the later model internal pumps fit straight in the cut out in the tank were the fuel guage sender is on a 99-2000 ???

Be easier to fit either a later tank or put a better external pump on, like a vl turbo pump etc

what do you do for a pressure regulator if you run a vl pump?

The car stuff ususlly runs at 2.5 bar pressure and bikes or late cars at 3 bar, so a bosch reg off a std ba ford etc will not work , be sure you get an adjustable one or the correct pressure , also the walbro external pumps seen on ebay work well and are smaller diameter than the vl pumps .
This would be overkill for you with the big bosch pump but shows the layout on my 08

The little Sard regulator would work well, there very temp stable, better than some of the bigger regulators that i have seen 5-7 psi pressure variation from hot to cold
