Pity they are illegal in this country or certainly SA . A cop mate told me all
police vehicles are fitted with a radar detector DETECTOR & if they catch you with one they will fine you about a thousand buck's ,then Jump on it,&
they aren't cheap, otherwise we would all have one .Same deal with jamer's.

I looked into this too and came to the conclusion of 'not worth the risk'
One tip I learnt is that if it is clearly marked as a 'parking assistant' ie; to detect how close an object is while parking
then it became a loop hole candidate and somewhat legal to have installed. However you might have to argue that one
with a judge, so again - not worth it.
The best way to do it is to make sure the numbers on your speedo match closely to the numbers on the signs!!!!

Not illegal to sell, advertise or own, just illegal to have fitted or in /on any vehicle (a coppers words not mine).
Yeah...if it's illegal to have one fitted to your bike/car whatever...why are they available to buy?

one might say the same for lots of illegal items that are still readily available for purchase.
I agree Rob...the list is endless...why does the end-user always get penalised when the retailer/importer should be the one held accountable?

Do you get fined $1000, but not lose any points? That might be worth it.

It's amazing what you can do with wireless technology. It just depends on your reaction time as to slowin down when the shiela says "Laser"

You don't really have to slow down! From what I understand they detect the laser, but also cause interference, meaning the laser wont be able to read your speed. The one I saw was called "Laser Pro Park" or similar, and was a parking system, which just so happened to use the same wavelength laser the police use, which is also an open wavelength. When the unit detects another laser, it warns you of the interference. Pretty tempting, as its really hard to judge where the front of my bike is when parking!

I wonder if it works on fixed cameras I'm sure they measure the time taken from strip to strip markers on the road, I just wonder if it would give them interference also.

Fixed Cameras are not "detected" or "jammed". GPS positions are stored in a database--C100--and reading and warning you of an approaching database GPS position is not illegal on any Australian Road in any way whatsoever.
Mobile Gat----- so Cameras, there's a way to skin that cat too.
Strip to strip markers:----a Victorian system---not mobile & as such not a threat as the good ol pigs usually only put them in sensible locations where ya shouldn't exceed the posted speed limit anyway.

Porky Pig wants a "reading" give him one. No, you don't really have to slow down, just scream past Porky doing 200Kmph while he's standin there with his laser gun. Think man, think.
