Is this normal? - Sidestand seems to stick out
#1
Hi All,

Recently bought a 2008 Busa and have been absolutely loving it. Now that the thrill of the speed is wearing off a little and Im getting used to it Im starting to pay attention to more than just the throttle.

Looking down at the sidestand, it seems to stick out a little too far from the frame - a little more than half way out along the length of the footpeg. Im a little worried (although Im sure I dont really need to worry - dont ride THAT well) that if I lean it over too far the sidestand will scrape and disaster will strike.

I just wanted to ask other owners of 2008 busas whether the sidestand sticks out that far when folded up. Is this normal or has mine bent somehow? Should I be getting the hammer out and banging it back into place or is there a better way? Happy to provide photos if that will help.

Advice, comments, information appreciated.

Regards,
Carl

Sounds like the stand has been modified and bent out to assist with the lean angle when parked.
The stock stand and the lean angle it puts the bike on has a bad reputation for the bike falling over.

If you ever get that far over that the stand is scraping on the road....Scary

Congrats on the purchase , my stand in the up position is 10mm from the exhaust ,see photo.

I would not recommend hammering it , take it to a Suzuki dealer or someone who knows what their doing and ask them how to proceed.

Hi Guys and thanks for the responses and especially thanks to 09sydrd for the picture. I think that I realise whats going on now after seeing the photo. The previous owner has put a single Yoshi pipe on and so without the pipe on the left hand side it just seems that the stand is sticking out in the middle of nowhere like its not quite meant to be there.

Might have to look for an after market one that tucks it back up a little closer to the line of the bike. Should probably do something with it as I havent made the necessary sidestand mod yet although its kept on an Anderson Stand/spacesaver in the garage so not likely to tip over unless Im out and about.

Happy Riding!

Those BLOODY previous owners are real bastards! They do all sorts of mods to Hayabusas.
You might find a few more knick knacks as you clean and polish. he he he.
