Welcome Mark. Generally the Gen 1 and 2 bikes are bullet-proof. That blue/black with the engine mods though.... I wouldn't touch it unless you are very mechanically minded and you know exactly what he's done to the bike. I sent him a question (just tyre-kicking) and he never replied!
Plenty of Busas out there, so don't rush into it...

It is a tough call Mark.
Many GEN1 owners will never move up because of the passion they have for their bikes.
I can understand that because I had one for 4 years and never thought there would be a better bike. It is still going strong back in the hands of the guy who owned it before me and he will never part with it again.
Close to 140,000 ks on it.
The GEN II is a different bike in both looks and performance but still retains the busa soul.
It is smoother in temperament, better handling and much more modern in design. I really cannot see better value on the market than a brand new BUSA for around $17,000.

busas are the kind of bike that owners hold on to and many hold for many years. mine is over 10 yrs old with no intention of selling, so therefore my advise would be get a new one that your heart can melt over, look after it and it will look after you and you can have many many years of trouble free riding on it. The only question is whether to get an '09 for a runout deal or wait a month till the 10's hit the floor and perhaps have to pay a bit more but then you know its the very latest. If you can afford new, go for new, you wont regret it and yea its worth every extra dollar.

Welcome Mark,
Now, if the Gen I was a MILF and the Gen II was a ....
Well I think you know where I'm heading with this. You don't know where the modified bike has been or what it has been used for, so, like Pan said, unless you're a gyno, oops, mechanically adept, you'll really never be so sure about your ride. But then again, it might not bother you. Someone said here somewhere on the forum that a Gen I hasn't loosened up and feel right until they've done 30,000 kays. Obviously likes MILFs.
Wouldn't bother me too much either; the used Gen I that is. But then I think I know what I'd be looking for, (pin plugs in pin locations 25 and 28 on the black ECU plug!!!!)

I bought an 07 runout model , the shop i bought it from had GenII's there as well . Guess i just couldent say no to the $16500 ride away price .
Can't say i have any intentions of selling it or trading up .
There are a few things on the GenII bikes that i wouldn't mind like the gear indicator and (from what i read) better brakes .
Probably the only thing about the GenII that hasn't grown on me is the tail/indicator setup , but then again i didn't buy the Gen1 i have for the styling .
An 09 runout model sounds good as i guess there will only be colour changes for the 2010 model.

Good weather, good woman, good road, good bike, good-bye!!
Hey everyone, mark here is a very good freind of mine.
Poor bastard cant make hes mind up
He was originally tossing up between a 1000 an
a busa, but told him to take mine for a spin an
looks like we have another one converted my freinds
I told him buying new is worth it,nothing like having piece of mind
an something new!
But i suppose if you find a mint gen 1 with low kms or a known
well looked after history, you cant go wrong either.
Personally even though i have a gen 1,an do prefer
the looks of it, i like the gen 2 because of the things
i dislike about mine, brakes, headlight, gear indicator.
Sure you can spend money to make the gen 1 better,
but if then gen 2 is better from factory, why not...
Gen2 is a pain in the ars* for injector change to bigger cc/min injectors, so your pretty much stuck with having to use the 8 x stock injectors & bumping ya fuel pressure up. Gen 1, 4 injectors, as big as ya want with fuel pump changes Throttle bodies with 2 x butterfly valve sets for 8 are also a pain in the ars*. Small HP increase mods, no problem on both Gen1 & Gen2.
Don't get a faggot white one, gota clean all the splattered insect guts off em all the time if you really ride the mutha
Want mods, by a stock one off a hairdresser that's never stacked it & do it yourself.

Geez Mark, bloody hard call, like everyone has said, they are both bloody good bikes and have bullet proof engines. If u've got the folding stuff, go new. If u look hard enough, u can pick up a Gen1 from around 8grand. Potentially u could buy 2 Gen 1's for the price of one new Gen11. One for commuting and one for scratching. Now that ur totally confused.....best of luck, either way, u can't go wrong!
Cheers,
