Hello all, i am going to take a ride on the 7th of January @ 5:00am, first heading to Sydney to visit family, staying there for 2 - 3 days then i continue my journey to Brisbane for work (forkie) and live in QLD happily ever after.
I've been told by a mate that i can do SA to NSW also NSW to QLD in one day each but i don't want to push it and i prefer not to ride at night with all the critters about, so i'm hoping that some of you might know of a decent, fair priced stopover with somewhere safe to park my pride and joy?
I'd also like to know if you think that $400 would be enough to get me to Sydney then another $400 - $500 for the rest of the way (on the dole for the past 3 months grrrrr).
I'll be using a GPS (Laser) to guide my path so navigation is not a problem mainly for fuel stops, i've only entered direct destinations so a stopover point has not been entered as of yet.
I imagine that the GPS will have me going through Mildura etc...
So..... anyone that may have some knowledge of a run as this and can pass it on to me would be very much appreciated indeed.
Once i've finally made it to QLD and settled myself in it would be great to catch up with a few of you and go for a ride and a bit of a guided tour lol.
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance for my journey and/or well wishes.

If you are passing through Raymond Terrace on the Pacific Hwy - Just North of Newcastle, you can have a bed, breaky and spot in the shed for a night if you need.
(Directions out the door and the way out of town given in the morning).

best route Adl to Syd
Murray Bridge, Lameroo/Pineroo, Oyen, Managatang, Tooleybuck, Balranald, Hay, West Wyalong, Grenfel, Cowra, Bathurst, Sydney
Just short of 1500 klicks. Been done in 12 hours but that was the days when we knew we were being survielled. Hay is about the halfway point. not in a position to recomend any where but used to be a motel right on the main left turn on the south of town. remember it being ok
Syd to Bris about 1000 klicks either Coastal or New England cops and cameras all over the place. 12 to 13 hours easy.
Stay safe on your travel huh.
give us a shout in Brisbane if i can help.

I second Tom's route. I would stay in Hay as there are plenty of motels to choose from and the people are friendly. There are a few pubs where you can get a counter meal. I did the trip this time last year and it was bloody hot (over 40) so I am not sure if you would ride 700ks in that heat.....I was in a car. Just a note the Hay plains are as boring as bat shit and the cops are out there. Try not to fall asleep or get booked.
Enjoy the trip
Cheers Taub
Hey Kat Man,
Don't know a lot about the route Adelaide to Syd but the run Syd to Bris is basically long and straight either up the New England or the Pacific. (There are loads of more interesting options, but won't get you from Syd to Bris in one day fully loaded).
Remember also that 2500kms of straight riding will chew out at least half of your rear tyre unless your running something like a 2ct.
Have left Carlingford at 6am and been home on the Gold Coast Mid afternoon a number of times. Brisvegas is another hour up the road (plus you gain an extra hour crossing the boarder. Stupid idea this no daylight saving thing)
As a fellow Katana Man myself ('81 7/11 and '84 pop up) it would be good to talk bikes and roads if you want to do a trip to the coast once you get settled. Drop us a line.
Safe travelling.

Thanks all for your offers and advice yes, i think Hay would probably be my best option for a stopover, as stated, being the half way point.
Ravestar you're more than welcome to join me on the trip
Once settled in Qld i'll definately pm you guys for a ride & bike talk etc...
I'll be staying in Gailes (subject to change), i guess that's close enough to Brissy so i'll keep my eyes peeled for any rides and/or meets going on in the near future.
Thanks again,
Barry.

definately would like to catch up some time to say hi and perhaps a the odd ride or .. and pick your brains about the bird.
have been out of the saddle for almost 2yrs and this is my first bus. previous was gsxr750 and a zx6. needed something which was a little more forgiving on the aging body(40) on those longer trips, plus the mrs felt safer 2up on the bus compared to the others.
been on the coast for 7 yrs and live a varsitylakes.
give us hollow ...pm me for my phone details
thanks for the welcome here

Finally arrived in Gailes QLD, leaving SA i only had to dodge a mother roo and her joey that were ambling onto the highway, a quick horn blast and a big rev had them hopping off into the bush, riding along the Hay plains was like watching paint dry which made it hard for the mind not to wander, stayed in Hay overnight, just before Mildura i was just motoring along when of all the birds a falcon swooped down within 15 feet in front of me scooping up a lizard or frog or something but flew off into the sky almost as fast as it come down, damn gave me a start being so sudden, heading through Mildura i was sitting at a roundabout when i see a Busa turning right (dark blue with chrome kanji... Anyone here?), got to Sydney in the arvo stayed fro that night and the next then off i went further north bound, somewhere before Raymond Terrace i stopped at the driver reviver for the free coffee and biccies, got back on the bike and noticed i blew the fuse on the power connector for my GPS, not that i needed a GPS as i went all the way on the pacific hwy & the signage to find gailles was easy to follow once i found out that i had to follow the Logan motorway, passed through 2 toll gates but was happy to pay the 80 cents each, $3.80, one gate leaving from Campbelltown NSW, on the way up to QLD i stopped for the night at Woolgoolga then off for the rest of the journey, i decided ireally needed a cigarette so ipulled in to Little Italy which had a driver reviver.... yay more free coffee, 3 blokes turned up 1 on a Harley the other 2 on a Ducati (2 up), the left before me but i later caught up with them at Grafton so i followed them for the rest of the way to keep my speed at a more saner pace although i had to fight the urge to just blast pass them i kept their pace and just enjoyed the fact i was riding with a couple more bikes, jsut before tweed i started hearing & feeling some sort of grinding & vibration coming out of the bottom end, for a while i thought i was having gearbox trouble when on a fuel stop i checked it out and found i had shot the carrier bearing, i can now wobble the rear sprocket sideways about 5 mm and forward/backward about 5 - 10mm and the chain has slackened quite considerably, hopefully that explains the grinding/vibration so now i need to find somewhere i can get the work done as i don't have any tools to do it myself, so while i'm here writing all this i need to ask if anyone knows where i can go to get the bike done?
All in all it was a fun ride... long but fun, a little uncomfortable since i had a camping backpack with about 50kg of luggage on my back (didn't get enough time and lack of funds made it difficult to buy a rack and bag and a tank bag, so i had to tough it out, but i am tough.... i ride a Busa.
Cheers

P.S. i'll contact you guys for a ride once i've got the bike sorted out, is ther any regular rides or coffee/beer nights in Brissy?

I can recommend "The Motorcycle Doctor" aka Lindsay Donai at:
Unit 3
174 Siganto Drive
Oxenford 4212
Ph: 07 5502 7774
Mobile: 0427 027 774
He does great work and is charging prices from about 20 years ago.
However, it's a 60klm ride from where you are. Someone might be able to suggest something more local.
