Pre-meet point of 7/11 Cnr of North and Clayton Roads, Clayton for the WER crew from 8.45am to leave at 9.00 am

“Green corridor” event under road escort & supervision of the Victoria Police

Organisers reserve the right to cancel the event at any stage if,upon professional advice, there is a safety risk to riders and event staff including the evacuationof all persons from the Upper Yarra Reservoir Park on advice from Parks Victoria Rangers.

The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation
doesn’t just remember lives… It saves them.
What started with a simple blue ribbon is now providing lifesaving
medical facilities in Victoria’s public hospitals.
The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation perpetuates the memory of
members of the Victoria Police killed in the line of duty by giving financial
support to worthwhile community projects within Victoria.
We can do nothing to bring back those police officers who have paid the
ultimate price, but as a grateful community, we can take positive steps to
honour their memory and ensure their sacrifice is acknowledged through a
range of projects that benefits others.
Victorians have shown their affection for this cause by giving overwhelming
support to events such as various sporting events, Blue Ribbon Day and now,
the Ride to Remember. But your continued support is crucial to the expansion
of the work we’ve started together so that more projects can be undertaken
and we can save more lives by building specialised medical facilities in our
hospitals.
Of the 150 officers who have died in the line of duty, 22 have been killed in
incidents involving motorcycles since 1924.
There are more than 270,000 licensed riders in Victoria so the Ride to
Remember is an excellent opportunity for the motorcycle community to
come together in memory of these officers.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation now has 9 regional branches in country Victoria
who worked in theory own communities to raise funds for local hospitals. All
monies raised by these branches stays in the local communities and the
foundation provides matching contributions so that major hospital projects
can be completed throughout Victoria.
Our focus on emergency, trauma and intensive care facilities ensures that the
funds we raise are applied for the benefit of all Victorians - any of us may need
emergency care in a public hospital at any time.
In 2005/06 the Victorian Police Blue Ribbon Foundation distributed $381,000
to public hospitals in Victoria and we’d like to increase that figure during
2006/07.

RIDE TO REMEMBER
The Ride to Remember is organised by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts, all
recreational riders, who wanted to make a contribution to their community.
They work alongside our staff at the Blue Ribbon Foundation to ensure a safe
and enjoyable ride for all participants and an event that will continue to grow
over the next few years.
There are obvious synergies between the Blue Ribbon Foundation, police and
motoring.We are grateful for the support and guidance of various motorcycle
clubs including the MRAA and Ulysses, who are helping us to develop the Ride
to Remember as a significant annual event on everyone’s ride calendar.
Our 2006 Ride to Remember changed to its new home - Upper Yarra Reservoir
Park at Reefton and, despite scorching temperatures of 42 degrees, 430 riders
joined us at the start line and many more guests and visitors joined us at the end.
We hope the weather is kinder for the 2007 Ride so that more riders can take
part in this special event.
The 2007 Ride to Remember is a “green corridor event
open to all licensed riders and all registered motorcycles
that will conclude with a catered lunch, entertainment
and trade show.
Our 2007 event will cover a distance of 99 kms starting at the Monash University
Carpark in Wellington Road Clayton then following a picturesque course through
the Yarra Valley to end up at the Upper Yarra Reservoir Park at Reefton. Once at
the destination entrants will be able to enjoy a BBQ lunch, be entertained by the
Victoria Police Bands or relax surrounded by natural bush setting.There will also
be competitions including a “Show & Shine” (subject to numbers).
Entry fee will be $15 per bike, which includes lunch. Pillion riders and visitors
will be charged $5 for lunch.
The traffic management and safety plan for the Ride to Remember will be under
the supervision of the Victoria Police Traffic Management Unit. This will be a
“green corridor” event under police escort to maximise safety and to minimise
disruption to other road users. Because we can expect hot conditions at this
time of year, there will be a brief refreshment stop en-route so that riders can
rehydrate and stretch their legs.
Registration in advance is preferred but entries will be accepted on the
day. Riders entering on the day will need to arrive prior to start time to complete
registration formalities. There will also be a formal briefing to riders outlining
details of the route and any special conditions that may apply on the day.
The starting point will be the Monash University carpark - enter off Wellington Road.
Marshals will be on hand to direct riders to various staging areas.The Ride distance
is 99kms so please ensure you have adequate fuel on board to cover this distance.

After what I heard about the traffic cops tagging people going to the motogp a few years ago - trust is out the window.
Think I'll have to pass anyway as the 21st I am working "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Is someone going to clean the gravel from reefton first so we are riding to remember the people that rode on the ride to remember ?

Green corridor means that all the intersections will be manned and we have a straight passage through. ie: no stopping. As the word suggests, green lights all the way.

Like the pink ribbon ride, if you have done that.

Oh, I doubt that in a ride this big, will you get a chance to do any high speeds anyway.

Im sure there are some good cops out there,although i personally havent met too many.
Most people only have dealings with the police when they are getting booked for some trumped up road offence.They have certainly screwed up my life enough over the last 20 odd years.Im sorry but this is how i feel.

Nothing against you Pinky... but....

Nahh, I just can't forget the first Barry Sheene memorial ride a few days before the OZ GP.

I was in the ESCORTED ride in honor of the late and great number 7. I was in the middle of the pack and the pigs were dictating the pace.

And what did I get a few weeks after my return home?? A bloody fine.

I went the following year, and we all gathered for the briefing. A cop hopped up and said, 'morning men (half the crowd hissed, but that is another story), my name is Constable Steve and some of you might remember me from last year's ride. Some of you will remember The Trouble we had with the speed camera on last year's run. There is no need to worry, I have found a solution. I turned it off. LET'S RIDE!!'

I don't have anything against you either pinky, your kool. I was going to put my hand up for the ride too, because I have never done it before. But I think I will pass on it too after reading whats happened to Riders on there previous Rides and experiences.
I was also thinking, why don't the authorities throw a percentage of that traffic fine revenue into the charity bucket, that would help a big time...
