Yeah............the old stripped sump plug trick Very Happy

Happened to my first bus............but to get out of a jam I removed the washer so the plug would go in a bit deeper & grab good thread again. Used a bit of silastic to seal it.

3 years later it was still holding Confused

If you pull the sump off you will see why they strip out Pi_freak

I'm going to buy a tourque wrench on saturday.Ive never been worried about overtourqeing bolts before , but after this thread I think i'm going to be a LOT more careful about this,ive always been touchy feely about this .I've always tourqed up bolts/nuts about 1/4-1/2 a turn at first resistance when doing up bolts.

Bruce we have helicoiled Pans head a few times but nothing seem to stick in there Idiot2, as for the busa sump it does look like his head Nerd

I think most people here have pulled the sump plug on the car which has a steel sump thread, the busa in comparison, with an aluminium sump thread, will strip out at anything near what torque is used on a typical car. Thats' why I use the torque wrench, 23nm feels too loose to me also.

ok got the stuff so do i need any type of sealantwith the new gasket and sump or not? had a look in the new sump at how the bolt is held in and holey cheese cake with extra cheese!!!!

Just rescrew the sump plug back in, take it to Peter Stevens to get an oil change then blame it on them saying they did it...hey presto, problem solved.GhastlyYesParty-smiley-018

i didnt have to use any sealant, just make sure both surfaces are clean from any gasket residue. new plug has a crushable washer, so remember when tightening theres 2 stages, 1 to crush the washer, 2 bolt tightening, just dont overdo it.

Anyone tried welding up the stripped plug area and putting in a much smaller plug? Like 6mm or something?

Hi guys. First post. Bought myself a second hand 2004 Busa and have just done a 4000k trip. Thought I would change the oil, and yep, you guessed, stripped the thread. So I google helicoil, and what do I find, the Hayabusa club with some guy from Townsville, where i live, had the same problem last year! Must be the heat!
What I would like to know if anyone has had the helicoil repair done successfully and if I will need to take the pan of the bike which I am loathe to do since it looks I will have to take off the exhaust, cooling fan and a few other bits and pieces.
Was hoping to be able to either get a mobile mechanic or transport bike into a bikeshop where they might do it.
Any ideas?

go into the suzuki shop and chat to Richard (sales) he is the man to see.. great bloke and very knowledgeable (has a nice big bore busa too) ... tell him i sent you.
