Rocket funeral details

This is such sad news. I (like many here) never met Rocket, but through my involvement here came to respect and like him. He was a very special character. In some ways, a man apart. Forthright, never held back an opinion, often controversial, sometimes downright outrageous. But that was the man. A special character. One that enriches your world and one that will be sorely missed. Never met him, won't easily forget him either.

R.I.P Rocket Rod.

Sincere regards.... Astro (Rob)

When I read the news this morning, I did not know what to say.
What do you say when someone you know passes away? It is hard to put into words.
This board will miss Rod's unique character as he was such a enthusiatic contributor. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

A poem I shamelessly stole for Rod:

Can you feel the wind in Heaven
Can you hear me call your name
Can you see the tears that fall
This world wont ever be the same

Can you feel the wind in Heaven
When we gather in our group
Can you hear the sound of silence
When we look where you once stood.

Can you feel the wind in Heaven
Can you hear the ladies cry
Can you feel our broken hearts
When we have to say goodbye

Can you feel the wind in Heaven
While the men hold back the tears
Leather clad and watery eyes
And know weâ€d rather have you here

I hope there is a Biker Heaven
And we will meet again someday
I hope to feel the wind in Heaven
And shake your hand again that day

Having just heard/read of the news it still comes as a shock even though weve known hes been battling.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends and grieve together with them all. He will be missed.

I actually met Rod many years ago when we both belonged in the HRCA Honda's Riders Club. Then re-met when we both had busas.

He did what he loved best and managed a long trip australia wide not a long while back. Now the battle is over and can also be seen as a release of the pain.

Rod (Rocket) you will not be forgotten, rest in peace bro.

Brent, when are you going to head down? I may well tag along as you pass if I can get away.

I've been out of the loop & just got back from interstate to hear this shocking news, too sad for words really.
Rocket was a terrific bloke you could always trust 100% on any ride & we certainly did a whole lot of that together over the past 6 odd years. One particular Reefton run I did with him will remain firmly fixed in my mind forever.

I also liked to hear him talking about his exploits on his GPz750 turbo all those years ago amongst many other entertaining & amusing things in general. Rod was very serious about his riding & a bloke I would describe as being a fair dinkum motorcyclist par excellence & always one willing to lend a hand with advice here on the forum or anywhere else for that matter.

To Rod's family & friends I extend my sincere condolences at this very sad & difficult time. RIP Rod.
Never ride the A model of anything.

Astro, you are a champ.

I have an idea. The Canberra Mob who can't be there are meeting on Tuesday night. We are all going to have a shot of Jack and moment to honor a fallen member. If other groups around the country who can't be there want to do the same, it is a way of honoring a member and reflecting the national nature of the club.

This could be a nice thing.

I can put a couple of people up at my place for anyone coming to Rocket's funeral. At least 2, more if needed. Wearlej, Max - planning to spend a night before or after?

I know Brent is considering coming down, if he does I'll come down too. Thanks for the offer of a bed guys, we'll need one. I'll come down Monday and return Wednesday. It's around 700+ kays each way for me, making it more like a thousand for Brent.
Rocket Man was all of our mate, that's why we would all like to come down to see him off and be with other mates tyo se him off.

On a sombre note I have been talking with Chris (Razzor) on PMs and he has reervations about being able to be in the group if I come down.

Chris - please understand that I am a bit of a roughy with emotions and wear my heart on my sleeve. I am sorry I upset you so badly over the model thing. I would consider it an honour to ride with you on Tuesday next week. You are also our mate. I would like to extend my hand in friendship to you, in front of all of our mates and say sorry for the crap that we did a few weeks ago.

Max
