surgery- updated and i'm still alive
#1
hello all
i will be out of action for a while, i had an MRI on thursday night, then amazingly was able to get into the specialist the next morning (they had a cancellation), then at the specialist he told me that mr anterior cruciate ligament (the one the controls stability when twisting or turning) had gone walkabouts. He could no longer see it on the scan. Then he proceeded to tell me that while that went the meniscus ligament that sits between the knee joint has folded back onto itself and is being crushed as i walk so he hopes a quick operation can save it otherwise they will just cut it out. This also controls stability.

Anyway get out of the appointment and the next date they have for surgery is 2 months... hang on someone just cancelled, how's tuesday!!!

So i go in on tuesday lunch time(except i have to fast for 6 hours) and come out in a day or two. But no riding for a while. Leg in a braace and straight for three weeks, then basic straight line stuff for another 3 weeks, 2 months maybe three before riding again and 9 months till i can even think of returning to sport...

yay that means when i can ride it
ll be spring and nice and warm not like these ridiculous 1-2 degree morning rides to work.

so stay safe and happy riding
cheers
Rob

Good luck Rob, I hope they get it right the first time mate.

Not good for a newbie married guy either.

under the knife? Argh! you'll be right. Ask the Anesthetist to use an oversized rubber mallet.

I gess this means no line dancing for a while too. crying shame that.

So if you KNEEd anything let us know. We wont make you ask on bended knee. And it has to be legal, no illigament (illigitimate) requests.

Oh oh, enough silly stuff, ya reckon we could mount a highway peg on a busa? we could get you riding sooner.

Hmmmm, gunna go and research this one.

Hope all goes well and your back on your feet sooner than later.
I'll say a few for you (prayers) seeing as you wont be able to get down there.

all went well- i am out of hospital and recovering at home. Doctor said they were able to repair the meniscus and the acl reconstruction went well. I had some slight scuffing of the right hand side femur where the meniscus had popped out from but that is not really an issue till later when it will mean arthritis in the knee.
Thanks for the kind words and support. Hope to be back riding in the coming months.
Cheers

Arthritis isn't all that bad. I have one cruciate left intact and one that they stitched back together in my left knee and arthritis. I can't run anymore but Jesus I can ride LOL. It is a great excuse for making others carry heavy shit around for you.

Good luck with the recovery, and listen to one piece of advice................

MAKE SURE YOU DO ALL OF YOUR PHYSIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT MISS ONE DAY OF EXERCISES!!!!!!!!!!
