It's gotten to the point of being "beyond stupid" with my mate's insurance claim through "Shannanigans".
Since taking hold of his bike weeks ago and declining the claim, now they don't seem to know where his bike is. In the meantime he's received written notice from the RTA to hand in the plates or cop a fine! Check it out if you like: http://www.nswroadandtrackbikes.com/foru...php?t=1701 Word is quickly going around to bike and car clubs about this matter and people are changing insurers. This is going to sting Shannons financially in a big way! If you know anyone insured with Shannons, please warn them about this for their own sake.

G'day
I was knocked off my bike 4 months ago...Shannons were very good to deal with, repairs approved in a week, paid me $500 towards a new helmet promptly...didn't need to claim other apparel, it wasn't marked...in a nutshell I am a satisfied customer. Maybe the difference is the trackday/ride day thing, maybe it's an at fault / not at fault thing... I'll have another think about it when insurance is due for renewal (or when and if I go play on a track day) Problem is that usually cheap insurance requires that you only ride 2 days a week... Regards Kevin

This case is a little complicated Kev. It was a "Circuit Breakers" training day at the track and Shannons was contacted a week before the event (since they advertise they cover approved training days) and they stated (verbally to several people) it WAS an approved course.
Several people were told so and it was consequently posted on the RATS website that these discussions took place... On the day 4 bikes fell on the opening warm up lap because of the bad conditions. A few weeks later Shannons changed their tune and said it wasn't an approved course... but Superbike School and Stay Upright STILL ARE approved! Also, they took the guys CBR, declined the claim, now state they don't know where the bike is... It's going to be a legal matter at the end of the day, but I thought I'd warn Shannons customers about it. I was a Shannons customer until yesterday. WQBE now do "better" quotes and Shannons don't have an "exit fee", so it worked out cheaper to swap anyway

i made an a not at fault claim with Shannon's on my old bike. i have to say they were good to deal with too. the repairs were approved in less than a week and my bike was in and out of the shop in under 6 working days.
its a shame when shit like this happens. to be fair though, so far they have been really great to deal with. i hope it all works out for your mate anyway pan.

Since my post above I've changed to ebike insurence.
Full cover, rating 1, NO EXCESS, no extra excess if stolen, daily commuter, personal gear covered $328.00

I looked at them last week - their quote was half of the others, but i got the wobbles when i read their Product Disclosure Statement and decided to go with the locals
Your insurance is arranged by Egroup (Australia) Insurance Services Pty Ltd, on behalf of Southern Rock Insurance Company Limited, a direct offshore foreign insurer, who is not authorised under the Insurance Act 1973 to conduct business in Australia, and therefore not subject to the provisions of the Act - which establishes a system of financial supervision of General Insurers in Australia. Their quote of $610 for both bikes was hard to go past - but in the end i dont want to give an insurance company a reason to shaft me when i need to make a claim as i have a few $$$$ invested in the shed now

In the hard copy docs I received it clearly says "any disputes arising from this policy will be dealt with under Australian law"
They are governed by the Australian Securities commission as are all insurance companies. Approx July 08 a new law in AU will require all insurance companies to have an underwriter in Australia, & so egroup will be doing this. Any problems with claims can be dealt with by the Ombudsman just like any other insurance company.

We're happy for you to be the "Test" case - not that we're wishing an accident on you mate
Ride on Cheers Ruffy

Sounds good to me......
I've only had 1 off since I started riding & that wasn't my fault. (was hit from behind on the freeway @ 80kmh). I did drop my old Kawa 1000RX once at the lights. I was stopped at a red & my foot was itchy so I leaned over to scratch & lost balance. I was right at the front of the line too, so EVERYONE lined up behind me got to watch. Louwai Wrote:In the hard copy docs I received it clearly says "any disputes arising from this policy will be dealt with under Australian law" The Insurance Ombudsman is a service is only for participating companies of which neither E-bike nor Southern Rock insurance is listed AFAIK. Further, not good feedback about their car insurance (regardless of whether from OS, the same insurer operates in Oz, UK & NZ): Review centre Is there a record of anyone in Australia having made successful claim with this mob? | ||||
