Giving each other a helping hand

You know, I have been really impressed by the generosity, honesty and downright hospitality that seems to be continually shown on this forum, not to mention the bloody funny one liners and good humor shown by all.

Given that we all have a passion in common, and it seems that we are more than wiling to help each other (example of emergency numbers springs to mind), I thought I would suggest taking this one step further. Volvi, sorry if I am stepping over the mark with this - feel free to axe the thread if I am.

But the way I look at it, we have a heck of a lot of members on this forum, from all walks of life, so why don't we see if we can help each other out professionally as well as socially.

What I am suggesting is this. Those that are interested, simply list what it is that you do on this thread. So, for example, if you are a builder and your are in my vicinity, than the next time I need something built - be sure that I will contact you and in doing so, keep it in the network. This works for a couple of reasons, firstly because we have something in common, secondly, you will have your reputation to uphold amongst your peers and finally, I'd be looking for, and you'd be prepared to offer, mates rates - whilst still ensuring you make a buck at the same time (a fair and reasonable price so we know we're not getting ripped off). In addition to this, it could simply work as an advice forum, eg I'm in advertising, so I wouldn't mind an email asking if what a particular media has proposed for your business/organisation seems fair and reasonable.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, but if you are interested, maybe just list what it is you do, and where you are located and let's see were it takes us.

I'll get the ball rolling;

I'm a retired ad man, but do marketing consulting for a number of clients, mostly property and professional services, here in Cairns and across the state. I put together marketing campaigns, adverts and generally just offer advice on promoting products and or services.

OK, well that's it Pi_thumbsup

Hey Dan,

That one you built at Pialligo is a beauty. Unfortunately it's a private road and they won't let us ride on it.

I work for a electrical wholesaler as a rep, so if anyone requires anything that needs electricity to work let me know. Feel completely confident that mates rates will apply to any member of this club on the eastern sea-board from Cairns to Geelong, all it takes is a phone call on my part to any of the branches of the company and you will be looked after.
Woman,where's my wallet?

Wooohooo! your gunna love me. I'm multi skilled.

I work in Mental Health. I can see i'm gunna be in demand already.

I work as an intergration aid in a primary school. (In other words, well versed in dealing with problem children) That applies here, doesn't it?

I teach Aquatic Education. Anybody want swimming lessons?

Total computer geek, If it's a computer and it's broked i can fix it. If it's a computer and it's not broked i can break it in such a way nobody could fix it.

And i'm an artist. (yeah yeah, i heard the BS artist joke before. I'm one of the serious ones that paint and draw and stuff) This might actually be usefull in this group.

Oh yeah, and i'm increadibly well skilled in the fine art of doing nothing while looking like your doing alot. This is a seriously undervalued skill and pays well with little effort expended.

Glad i could contribute.

Geoff.

Originally I am an English teacher, and now I run the Events and Education Section at the National Library of Australia.

For all your spelling needs, give me a shoutout!

On a more serious note, I am a BANDIT for editing letters of complaint. I'm more than happy to look at anything you've written.

Would depend on size and image. Basically it works on materials + time + artistic value = price

But of course i have mates rates.

For the record, size isn't an issue. (The missus just read this over my shoulder and walked away laughing hysterically) I mean i will paint on any size canvas or wall or building. I have done everything from custom hand painted postcards to set painting whole sets for theater. All priced as per the system above.

Just give me an 'oi' if your serious.
